Not too long ago, I found this auction on a Hungarian website: http://jatek.vatera.hu/jatekkonzol_...ion_portable_psp/psp_firmware_1659814637.html Not knowing what it is (except that it is a update for the PSP), I went a forum to ask about it. They said that I should buy it and once I have it, post a forum about it here, because you guys are all about obscure stuff. So, can anyone help me about this little UMD I have now? Where is this from? The seller knew nothing about it. There's no ID on it, so I don't know which region was this made. I can't rip it, since there's no ISO on it. When I put it in my PSP, it just shows the update option. I guess I could rip the firmware from it with a software or something, but this firmware is available as a download already, no? The real question is, should I leave it alone and put it on my shelf, or does it need a documentation?
If you have a way to downgrade or unbrick your PSP, I'd say try it in a retail console. That would help verify it it's the regular OFW, or one meant for Debug/Test consoles. Maybe these discs were common in a particular region or area? Or maybe they were sent to stores?
I think I could downgrade my PSP, but I'm really experienced with this stuff. Setting USB mode to UMD instead of Memory Stick couldn't open the disc, but maybe there's some other software that could open the UMD? This is the first UMD firmware I've seen so far. I can't even find anything about it.
sony did offer UMD firmware updates although i dont think it was that common, prehaps just for service centers and certain circumstances i dont know.
Well, I managed to rip the UMD if anyone is interested. It contains a nice little image and the update itself. The iso is 104Mb (kinda strange an update shouldn't be this big), it's uploading to my Dropbox. The link will start working in roughly ten minutes from now, please don't rape it. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/52685605/Firmware 3 73.iso
Is this such are rare thing? How much could I net for it? You are not the first one asking me about selling this.
Yeah, I intend to keep it as I kinda like collecting useless shit like this. Unless someone is really desperate about owning this or offers some crazy good price, I don't think I'll sell it.
You should probably just list it on eBay and let us all fight it out for it... Those of us nut-job PSP collectors would love to have it.
Unfortunately, I can't sell through eBay. Well, there's always PM for this kind of stuff. Also, the disc looks nothing like that.
I have been rocking my PSP for 3 years now. This firmware predates it, no? I wonder when this was released.
3.73 was released on Nov 29th, 2007. I've compared your ISO with the OFW firmware from Sony, it's identical... So it's the normal retail firmware. It's only about 22 MB, the reason the ISO is over 100MB is just because it's saving all the empty space on the disc between the files... There is, however, a picture of a flower on it for some reason... Maybe that's normal...
Yeah, I found the image too. It's probably there because they could include it... http://tineye.com/search/165ca06b76c6c5e4462f1d00faca9cd0defd5b25/ And couldn't locate it with Tineye...
Has anyone actually seen the System Update disc pictured above (the blue one)? Certainly looks like a real photo vs a Sony publicity photo, but I don't think I've ever seen that... I do vaguely remember one of the options of updating the PSP was by UMD. I always assumed that meant via a game that had the FW on the disc, but maybe you could contact Sony and have them send you a disc... I'm sure they'd be more than happy to encourage firmware updates anyway they could...
Yeah, I think it was just for people that 'didn't have an internet connection'... Thus they probably made 2. I'd have requested them just for the hell of it though. Wish I had looked into it further back then.
