A few months ago, Sony promised that it would have a method for current PSP owners to get their existing UMD library onto the PSP Go. Today (2 weeks before launch) Sony doesn't have any idea on how that will work or if it will be able to actually do it. From an interview with Sony's Director of Hardware Marketing: Full interview is at: http://worthplaying.com/article/2009/9/21/interviews/68595/ -hl718
From what I'm reading over on the European PS forum, you'll get 5 free downloads from the PSN Store. No-one seems to have a source for this information however, it seems to be hearsay. I don't see how this is going to help people with huge UMD collections, and not all games are available for download. But then, as Sony have said many times, the PSPgo is not replacing the PSP-3000 in any way. If you have loads of UMD games then it makes sense to stick with your current system.
I think this whole business is nonsense. What happens if I want to sell my current games for ones I didn't beat yet? Can't do it without physical media.
Ya, its like I downloaded a MP3 of a song for 99c, and now I want to sell it used to another person. So take all the MP3 songs I purchased but no longer want, burn it to a CD and sell it to someone... And get busted for piracy. Non-physical media sucks.
They'll probably have a mail in thing, where you mail in your media and they credit your PSN account with the download. That would work on both PSGO and PSP.
I'm a huge psp supporter but I wouldn't recommend the psp go at all. No UMD drive and smaller screen, how is this appealing to current psp owners or new adopters? Buy a current psp, soft mod it for homebrew, and enjoy.
Don't forget this little tidbit about digital downloads... What will Sony do when the next "Hot Coffee" or similar happens? Freeze people from playing till it's patched? Wipe everyone’s PSP and give them a credit? Even if Sony doesn't have this ability now it will happen sooner or later. Just look at the Kindle.
Really not impressed with this. As a lot of people I like collecting games as well as playing them and even though having them play directly from the machine is handy I still prefer having the physical media and a manual. As it has be pointed out Sony could at any point pull a game off the service for what ever reason and thus you wouldn't be able to play the game or re-download it if your hardware messes up. Also what happens when Sony stop supporting the PSPGo and your hardware dies or is lost what happens to all the games you bought, do they become nothing but vapourware? Though this could just as easily apply to XBLA, PSN or WiiWare games. Bad times
Digital distribution is only good for casual games. The kind of people that play the latest cool game and 6 months later already forgot about it. It's the same thing with movies. These days of Netflix, Movies on demand both in PS3 and X360... For people like us, that likes gaming and owning it's media (and being able to play it again no matter what happen), it's a complete bullshit. I was already aware that i'll would have to buy Wipeout Fusion through PSN, when SCEE announced they will release the game + expansion in blu-ray media. Of course i'll buy it. That's the right way to own the game.
guess I wont be getting a pspgo. I hope it fails miserably but I am sure it wont. Too many people with unlimited disposable income.
Thought I'd throw this in here as it's the first PSPgo thread I came across. Joystiq PlayStation Yes folks, this incredibly well designed accessory will allow you to use your existing Go! Cam and the GPS unit on t' PSPgo. You may officially start taking the piss..... now.
