the modchip just allows you to select between 2 different firmware 1.5 for homebrew and 2.xx for the latest UMDs and stuff having said that, this really wont do much for piracy other than make people buy UMDs for games that havent been cracked to work with current loaders (unless im missing something else?)
Nah, I think in places were piracy runs rampant, like southamerica or asia people will get a 2GB duo and play one game at once. As I said before, unless somebody releases a 10Gb microdrive or sony starts selling UMDR, PSP piracy is not going anywhere beyond its actual status.
Well I wouldn't refer to myself as a pro, but I have done some PSP repair before and may be willing to offer my services after I try this out on my own unit.
Well about games on memory sticks, very few games actually use 1.8GB. Many are only half that. With that 90$ cost for the chip, it seems like it'd be stupid not to use it for piracy. I wouldn't pay 90$ for playing the few homebrew apps that require v1.5.
One could get most games down under the 450Mb mark very easily and some even down to 250Mb if one was not inclined to miss a few FMV sequences and music...
FYI There is a new(ish) loader which can boot ISOs off a USB Device (HDD, iPOD etc) it can also boot compressed ISOs So if you really wanted to have all your games with you, just stick them on your MP3 player (who doesnt have a >4gig iPod ?) But as I said earlier this still doesnt do much for Piracy as you would still need to purchase the UMD for >1.5fw games that do not work with current loaders
i have 5 psp games on my 2gig stick, tons of roms and some music, love sticking it to sony for making me upgrade.
Great, now I've something to do with the 20GBs of empty space in my iPod. Sure it works? what about loading speeds, are those better than UMD's?
I'm pretty sure loading speed is faster, you can find out more at ps2nfo.com or psp-hacks.com DAXZSIO loader is the one youre after ;-)
