One of my friends has a broken PSP, he says it was in his pocket and it got hit i guess by accident and who did it is buying him a new one to make up for it, but that leaves a spare PSP and I'd like to rescue it. The system seems to be fine, but the screen is cracked down the middle, so I'm guessing the only thing it needs is a new screen. (He also lost the original analog nub, but that's not a huge deal right now) How hard is it to replace the screen in there, and how much do they cost? Ah, and if he doesnt just give it to me, how much do you think I should give him for it? I was thinking 40$. Thanks!
On ebay it looks like a new replacement screen runs about $30. plus shipping, although a bunch of them are from Hong Kong, so who knows what quality they are. I don't really know about the actual task of replacing it. But it shouldn't be too hard. Since you are just unplugging one lcd screen and plugging another in it's place. Edit: oh and, $40 seems to be a pretty good deal, ebay has psp's with broken screens selling around 100... Can you tell I was on ebay when I read this thread??
It should be easy enough to pop in a new screen, id just try to match the screen in case anything changed slightly (I dont know though, so). New face covers are available as well. So if you get the PSP for 40 bucks, youll probably end up spending 60-80 on repairs. As long as things work well, its a good deal
On Ebay they have all those replacement screens, but they say there made by sharp, and ......are from hong kong. Are these the real deal or some cheap crap?
Dunno. However i cant think of anything else that uses the same PSP screen so there really should only be one source...
Sorry for the delayed response timing. It's not a hard repair by any means. I have performed a few screen replacements and there really isn't much to it. If you haven't attempted this kind of thing before I would suggest using the video on lik sang as a guide to disassemble/reassemble the unit. I've only used Sharp screens for this repair, they work fine. If you're still interested in performing the repair I can dig up that video for you.
