Well, when speaking of games ahead of its time, people immediately think of Shenmue (game that I think is very overrated) but here I want to talk about some games, which to me, are the best of the PS1 and had not received its proper value. Both are virtually unknown. 1 - Germs - (BETA???) This is a very interesting game because it is still considered beta in its title. It's pretty much a mix of RPG detective, in which you have a huge 3-D, open city to explore, buy weapons, go to restaurants, take tren, or take the bus. It is a game entirely in Japanese, so the language barrier prevents them from understanding the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzjX8sMtKqQ&feature=c4-overview&list=UUpUk0ZcAhSKelXwbdvhbMng People who know this game, usually compare to GTA due to the level of freedom offered. And I think this could have been one of the best games on the playstation, if it was over worked, or received an English localization. It is very good for those who like Adventures in detective style. If you want to find it, the only way is through the code of the iso, SLPS-[02107]. http://ks23364.kimsufi.com/psxdata/databasepsx/games/J/G/SLPS-02107.html 2 - Mizzurna Falls Someone probably already know this game. Released before GTA3 and Shenmue, this game is considered an adventure, but uses concepts of open world, day and night cycle, passage of time according to a calendar, that is based on the events, and you can drive your own vehicle . All this in 3-D, in the classic PS1 hardware. The only problem is that it is completely in Japanese. The most interesting is that this was almost the last game of his production company, Human, before bankruptcy. http://easternmind.tumblr.com/post/2906013149/mizzurna So, any of you know some more unknown game from the PS1, or other old consoles, which can be considered ahead of his time? I could cite Body Harvest on nintendo 64. It's a good game, but does not reach the level of quality achieved in playstation. 3 - Manic Game Girl So here we have this game released in the last breath of Playstation1, and uses some features only seen in next generation of games, for example, all characters, without exception, have voices. Shenmue also did this, but certainly it was a much more expensive game to produce than this. View attachment MGG.bmp http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/part2/games-other9.htm And the best thing about this game, no doubt, are the references to videogames, as we can see in the screenshot above, several devices of the next generation, even competitors of sony. And not forgetting the covers of actual games, as we can see on the shelf.
There was that sandbox game with the little alien, can't remember the name but it was very impressive for a PSX
Aconcagua is a late PS1 title released only in Japan. It's a typical adventure in terms of gameplay so I am not sure if it qualifies for this thread, but it has very high-quality storytelling, great atmosphere and excellent voices that speak in different languages (Japanese, English, Spanish) to further enhance the feeling of an international collaboration among characters. It is a bit rare these days and surprisingly was never released outside of Japan, even though it was a Sony-developed AAA-title. I wrote down Mizzurna Falls in my to-buy-list! That game looks absolutely brilliant.
I actually have a link to where you can buy Mizzuma Falls for just only $45 with Free Shipping i'mma see if they have Germs around for sale as well! but back on topic, anyways in my own opinion i believe one of these relatively unknown Visual Novel Super Famicom Games like "Tsukikomori" And "Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi" Being the most graphically advanced games ever made for the little 16bit console of it's time! Way better looking than Donkey Kong Country will ever be!
True, i forgot This! Aconcagua also have great graphics. And these snes games look very good and scary, it is only a shame that they are only in Japanese... About Shenmue. It is somewhat tedious. Do not misunderstand me, I know we have all different opinions, but it's like watching a movie, it's not like you could make choices, and has very little action.
Looking at the cover of the cd, a few moments ago, I realized that the cover is composed of bodies of naked people :-O
is actually a bit difficult to find, even on google. This game would be better used if there was a manual or guide that would help advance the story, but unfortunately this information is nonexistent.
True but, i happen to have many chinese & Korean PSX isos websites that gots these super obscure Japanese PS1 games for grabs
there's so many brilliant unknown games to be played out there Great topic, three more games to add to my list
I recently discovered a new game, which also can be considered rare. Could you pass me that link, to that site of korean games, for PM? I'd like to see if this game is also there. SLPM-88501 manic game girl
I've heard of that before I think, I found a gameplay video of it on YouTube about a few weeks ago. And you said you like a link to the iso site or just a link to download the game?
just a link to the download is already good. These kind of games, using an open world RPG, are always my favorites.
I'm continuing to search for it though at the mean time you should check this link out http://hackxx.egloos.com/m/2965662 is screenshots from the game
very cool. thanks for the screenshots. I'm dying to play this game. Look, a link, in the old megaupload... http://pastebin.com/qyDU3NqX
