    I was trying to install an MM3 modchip today and I (stupidly) removed a trace that let to the 4th pin on the board . Could I use the left side of the capacitor that is directly below it?

    You'll need to reconnect both ends first.

    Ok, so I soldered wire #4 to the left side of the SMD capacitor below the test point and it works! This appears to have killed the reset button though lol. Doesn't surprise me as this was in close proximity to the cable leading from the power supply to the motherboard.

    You don't need point 4, that's just for switching modes which most of us will never use.

    Stealth--->Classic--->Off.

    Doesn't MM3 also have the ability to have an LED hooked up for output display?

    No. The mm3 don't have this feature anymore.
    The LED feature was removed, it's present only in version 2.XX.
    IMHO mayumi V4 it's better because uses an ext oscillator on a component of psx (i don't remember who :p) and it's much better :)

    I like Mayumi too, most user just know mm3.
    Mayumi V3 is the best for 1000 series, too bad install diagrams are no where around.

    My assumptions were correct. If you look at page 3 of this schematic, you can see what went wrong. I had broken the test point above FB601, which led to EXT RESET.

    When I saw that the modchip was working, I sandwiched it all back together and have no plans to open it ever again :p. One last question: Is it Ok that I didn't reattach the metal sheild that was originaly soldered to the board? Again, everything seems to function fine.

    jinn do you have maymi v3 hex? O.O
    I'm very interested to it. can you share? :Q___
    The metal shield should be connected, his function, if i'm not wrong, is for the rf noises :p

    MM it's a copy paste of the mayumi, but uses internal osc of the pic. I don't like this solution because the internal OSCCAL value of some series of PIC was not correctly calibrate (bugged pic from microchip), resulting that the internal ocillator of the pic don't work at exact clock as the original code was written, given some problems :p
    MM it's most commercial because, for vendors less wire for modding it's better. It's ridiculous reading on some site that the old crow 3\4 wire mode chip it's better because uses less wire. ROTFL

    Do you know what chip v3 is supposed to be used on? v2.1 is obviously not the 12c508/9 as it shows pin 12 on the install.

    If the chip is known, I can probably figure out the installation - the motherboard points will be the same, its just working out whats what on the chip itself.

    @Bad_Ad84

    The HEX is in the "To be sorted" folder

    Mayumi V3 uses the 12C508/9 from what I can tell.

    Mayumi V2.1 uses 16F84

    Its already been sorted, I know where the hex is :)

    I will program it to a 12c508 and try to work out whats what

    Mayumi V2 it's for 16F84
    I don't know why autor selected that PIC, very strange.
    On V4 he's turned again on PIC12C50X...

    Sorry for turning this into a general troubleshooting thread, but I just noticed I'm unable to boot libcrypt games. I burned Strider 2 (which included a a sub-channel file) with CloneCD and it gives me the red warning screen saying "CONSOLE MAY BE MODIFIED".

    Is it true that libcrypt-bypassing modchips have to have short wires? Because mine are probably way to long, if that's what's causing the issue.

    check points 3 and 7.

    Since you messed up point 4, I'm going to assume it's not connected and will give instruction on how to load game.

    If you turn on system with lid open chip will go into classic mode

    if you turn on system with game inside and lid closed it will go into stealth mode

    Points 3 & 7 look OK, but I'll use a continuity tester this weekend to see if it's making a solid connection. And yes, when I was testing Strider 2, I turned the system on with the game inside and the lid shut.

    Just wanted to make sure. I really think it's Pin 3 and 7, since it's booting in classic mode.

    Do you mind taking some close up of the install.
