Can someone tell me the difference between the execute 3mb (not 3.3mb)??? is it better? cheers if so can someone PM it
The 3mb ELF legend... Let's say this clear: there's no 3mb ELF, or better said 3.3mb and "3mb" are the same file. This confussion comes after POPS-00001 usb patch included tutorials said something like "apply the patch to execute.elf (3MB)" but this don't necessary means there's such a different file. The author simply means to apply the patch to the file nearer to 3mb value because there's already hacked elfs with no use with the usb patch. Take a look at the video tutorials included in same pack, you can see they work with the 3.3 mb execute.elf.
Thanks for the reply, yes I know now been looking and found "EXECUTE_POPS-PSP-660_BIOS_.ELF"which is a region free psp bios,im going to have a go with this one cheers !
~3.3MB There are only 2 kinds of "POPS" ELF floating around I guess : - POPS-00001 and hexedited POPS-00001 ELFs = 3.448.848 bytes (the 3.3MB thing, made of a homebrew launcher + the POPS ELF + the POPS IOPRP) - POPS = 3.166.988 bytes (the POPS executable, crc32 1ef0a3a7, md5 355a892a8ce4e4a105469d4ef6f39a42) The one you guys want to patch is POPS-00001 based, so it's 3.448.848 bytes in size. Truncating a POPS-00001 ELF would simply break the container, then POPS could no longer run, hence why I guess that all the POPS-00001 variants you may find have the same ELF size (unless they're packed or dummy/trash data was appended). Last but not least, POPS-00001 is not POPS, or a leak of "Sony's official PSX emulator for PS2 HDD", or whatever. It's a loader which contains POPS. That difference matters, not just because most of you don't know what you're hexediting, but also because anyone who may want to write his own launcher will need the clean emulator files and not someone else's homebrew launcher that was raped by the whole www. At least, conan14 seemed to have find Leo's copy np, just by Googling the official name of the emulator installed partition (which again, is not POPS-00001) LOL xD.
Interesting, just by curiosity, you are the autor of the launcher POPS-00001 like POPStarter? So, which is the real name of this Official Sony's PSX emulator? Sorry, I also have curiosity about it.
Thanks krHACKen and all for clearing this up I know now all about the execute.elf, its been a while in hex editing and hacking,I used to make rip kits for the psp....

Yes. The emulator has no official name, since it was part of a downloadable PS1 demo. We call it "POPS" because we've found that string in the disc0 file header. The official Title ID of the package was "SLBB-00001", and the original partition name was "PP.SLBB-00001". Search this using your fav search engine, and you'll find Leo's copy. Look at the upload dates. The upload date of his raw copy is 2008-05-30. The upload date of his decrypted files is 2010-02-07. Then go to PSX-Scene, you'll see dis : "NEWS: Sony's official PSX emulator for PS2 HDD leaked (POPS-00001)"..... 2013-02-07..... ROFL
I see, I had no idea of this, since, when I just discover this emulator, I got that launcher (which you made) with all the necessary data already applied, so I thinking it was originally released in that way. Good to know the true of it. Interesting, thanks for all the info, is great to investigate the history of this amazing emulator. I search by SLBB-00001 in google and I found 3 files in a 4shared account: SLBB-00001.BIN (2008-05-30) 8,73MB - What is that? PP_SLBB-00001.rar (2008-05-30) 76,7MB- I guess this is the raw copy, right? PP_SLBB-00001_PS1iso.zip (2010-02-02) 6,71MB - I guess this is just a dump of the game which come together with the emulator. I can't find the decrypted files (2010-02-07) yet, I will keep searching. Thanks for all the info again krHACKen!
It is the original Bishi Bashi demo disc image (disc0) but with its "POPS header" removed. Probably for playing/trying it in a PS1 or in another PS1 emu... That's right. It's a raw partition image of Leonard's installed package. The app package is Dnas_Hdd encrypted and bound to his $ONY HDD firmware ID. It contains the SLBB-00001.BIN file mentioned above + a cuesheet + the PNG icon of the game My bad. The file name does not have "SLBB-00001" in it, but was in a 4shared subfolder. To find it, Google this : r3RCbcyD What's in this decrypted.zip ? The same files that are required by POPStarter r13, the POPS decrypted files, without hacks/loader/bullshit, the real things. EDIT : Oh, since we were into collecting glorious POPS/POPS-00001/POPStarter historical relics, here's a nice one : 2012-12-30, the day conan14 said hello; 2013-01-06, the day conan14 figured out that $ONY really messed up hehehe; 2013-01-07, the day conan14 released his launcher along with a patched POPS ELF. http://idata.over-blog.com/1/06/19/78/2437330.JPG Hail to the King. That was the first time the PSXplanet members (me included) could run a commercial game with POPS. Before conan14 joined the fun, we were stuck with a rather lame injection method for playing PS1 homebrews with POPS. That was the POC1 era. POC2 (POPS-00001) came after conan14 told us how to crack the damn thing, POPStarter came after the dev team canceled the POPS loader project. And, in the middle of all that POPS-00001 hexediting lameness, Delcro made the biggest and most wanted improvement to POPS-00001, by coding a module that allows us to play our shit from a USB drive.
I understand, thanks for clearing that. I see, but when I try to search it the results make no sense, look: A last thing, I was seeing your WTF.TXT from POPS1_CONTAINER.7z, where you explain what and where to past the data in the launcher, I wonder where I can found that POPS ELF you was talking there, maybe is in the Leo's files? Thanks for all the replies!
Hello everybody ^_^ I'm new in this comunity, I want to say a big thank to the guys working on this emulator and so for the other one (POPStarter). I want to thank Delcro for making the usb thing happen, BUT, to me it doesn't happen I mean, I do all the steps that cozy said but when I click the EXECUTE.ELF (with name changed to RE3NEM.ELF, since that's the game I want to try) nothing happen, the screen just goes black. P.S: The files I have on the POPS folder inside my usb are: RE3NEM folder; RE3NEM.BIN and RE3NEM.ELF, am I missing something?. Please help, thanks.~
You have to wait 25 seconds to boot the POPS. If you still have problems, please PM me your email address.
Thanks a lot for post all the history! I really like to know all as possible about this amazing emulator, which I love! I guess that POPS ELF I was asking is in that conan14's package (BOOT.rar), right? Unfortunatelly the download link is dead, I like to get it, can you send me a copy please? Thanks again!
Well I don't know but does POPS-00001 works only with NTSC games? Because I tried Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on both PAL and NTSC versions and the only who pass through "the black screen failed boot" is the NTSC one, the PAL doesn't seem to work Quite sad since I play PAL games just because my native language (Spanish). But I'm happy it worked (At least) with the NTSC one!!
If you use the PSP Bios you will not have problem with NTSC and PAL games, both run. I try both in POPS-00001 (USB version) and both works, however, I find a little problem (in both versions), the game freeze when you have to go to use the wrench (to remove the hose), I not know if this happen in the POPStarter too, since unfortunatelly I can't test it, due to I only can use USB method.
Muchas gracias por tu respuesta! (thanks for your answer) I was playing RE3 (NTSC version) and it did not hang when I used the wrench, it works perfectly fine. The only one I can't play is the PAL version. However thank you very much for your answer again I don't know what you said there, sorry. Can you explain me better?? Please! ^^
Hello "pichilie". A bientôt.
So, I guess this happen because USB load is a little different to HDD load. Here is a PPF patch to apply the PSP BIOS 6.60 in your POPS-00001: http://www.mediafire.com/download/orek0wxidhzg6fv
