This should be one of the higher quality looks at the H500C controllers out there. This one was likely included with an early PS-X dev kit, but I know some members had a conversation with ex-employees where they mentioned an earlier revision being used at the tail end of the SNES CD craziness. Either way, enjoy
I only came back to say "Good job" Borman! This Sony/SNES CD/Cart Prototype that just surfaced on Reddit looks really interesting and I'm now going to delve into posts about it to hear / read more. It would be interesting to see whether the owner manages to source a power supply and establish whether it boots.
That's very cool to see, but I'm going to agree with Moo, the aesthetics are terrible. The SNES controller and the original (non-DS) Playstation controller are two of my favourites, but this looks kind of like those pre-USB Gravis gamepads you always find at Value Village. Funnily enough, Gravis actually used a direct clone of the digital Playstation pad shell for at least one version of their USB Gamepad "Pro". In fairness, it looks (DTL-H500C) like it would have been a great fighting game pad. How far into Playstation development was it used, do you know?
If you see the video, it was used long enough to where a prototype was made with the final logo, which is pretty significant. I've read rumors, but havent found the source, that it was Ken Kutaragi's controller of choice, although he was ultimately overruled. Of course the prototype isn't as pretty as that final controller, but that is to be expected. With the Sony gray, some texture, and decals, people would be looking at the final controller the same was if it had been a prototype that looked flat like this
I wouldn't say that was a direct clone. When the DTL-H2000 came along in 1994. However there were plenty of other proposed controllers http://forum.digitpress.com/forum/s...d64b35d3ad6f&p=1516520&viewfull=1#post1516520
Thanks for that link, interesting to see the evolution of the controller. Some of those proposed Playstation logos are neat too.
Although I'm glad they didn't stick with that, I don't think it would be too bad. It's far more comfort-friendly than the NTSC NES controller and I could use that thing endlessly. You'll never really know unless you hold it in your hand yourself.
I suppose your right. When it comes down to it round controllers are more comfortable than square ones.
