Hey all Recently, I was browsing the asiles of the local Wal-Mart, and relized that most of the xbox1 games had been heavily discounted. Titles like Shenmue2 for 8.99 and PGR2 for 9.99. Now I've never owned an xbox in my life, nor have i played many xbox games. Though the xbox and its recent game price slashes tempt me even further. So do you think, that given the game's prices, and availabiltiy, i should buy an xbox1? I'd mainly be focusing on games such as: Forza PGR Halo Fable Morrowind Half Life 2 Doom 3 A 360 is out of the question due to cost, and all that interests me on it, is oblivion. Any comments? Ryan
well possibly, if you can get it below 100. I myself am not sure if i should sell my xbox or not. I was going to mod it but i ended up getting a 360 so it putoff plans for modding for now. So if you can get it for less thena $100 it mght be worth it.
Hmmm. I suggest you not spend your money on an xbox and simply buy yourself a kickass PC taht can handle oblivion, as well as its graphical enhancement mods that are out there already that make the game much more enjoyable than it already is. Plus all the games you listed on there, except forza and pgr, are also available for the PC and look a lot better on it, as well.
Dude, get it! The XBOX is totally awesome. Also, don't forget to check out these games: Phantom Dust Phantom Crash Halo 2 SVC Chaos Metal Slug 3, 4, and 5 Sega GT 2002 Jet Set Radio Future TimeSplitters Future Perfect (XBOX version is BY FAR the best if you are into Live) Project Snowblind Metal Arms: A Glitch in the System Mech Assault Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf Crimson Skies Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic II Arx Fatalis Syberia Syberia II
I was always strongly opposed to the Xbox until I played Halo. I now own 4 Xboxes (2 modded) and an Xbox 360. Halo really sucked me in and the modding community is quite significant and has definitely helped hold my interest in the system. I'd recommend getting one. EB buys them back for $50, so I wouldn't be surprised if you can buy one off someone for $60. I got one of mine for $65 from a guy who was about to sell it to EB when they were giving $60 in store credit. Another great game I would recommend for the system is Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. That game was really overlooked and is incredibly fun, better than any of the movies.
I'm most likely gonna go for the holiday edition (Which costco still has) as it seems to be a pretty okay deal. As for pc gaming, yea i looked into that a bit, but decided against it,myself and pc installations don't work well together(see BF1942) I was also told by an Ebgames employee, that if you trade in an xbox1 console, you can get 100 bucks off a 360, which sounds pretty fair, if i ever decide to get a 360 mairsil, unless walmart sells debugs, the probability of that is low, although it would be cool I also looked into soft modding, and seen that with MechAssault save game, you can hack the xbox's dashboard,no messy mod chips, which also appeals to me That being said, I thank you guy's as I'll be purchasing one today Ryan
Get Star Wars Battlefront I and II. Those are pretty good. I'd also suggest: Far Cry if you like making maps and playing against others online. Doom 3 Ressurection of Evil Dai Senryaku VII Splinter Cell series A general rule of thumb I've been using over the last year and a half is to buy the Xbox version of whatever Multi-console Game is released. I think the controller is better suited for FPSs and the graphics look better, too. Also: Steer Clear of Pariah and the upcoming game Warpath. (Warpath is made by the same company as Pariah and is just a different Pariah skin. Same weapons, vehicles, gameplay, etc. and no mapmaker this time) P.S.--If you are going to be into soft-modding, I hope thats not for online cheating.
I loved my 360 until my older brother played it 14 hours over the weekend and fried it. Or it could of been the the Sony strudel i was eating.
Not to thread jack, but the only way to truely kill an xbox is to do damage to the main mobo. Everything else can be swapped out and replaced.
@APE: Can you replace the DVD drive on a 360 now? I know they were married to the mobo, but I've been working a lot and unable to follow any new developments. @RyanGamerGoneCrazy A softmod will let you have some fun, but modchips make it much easier to put in a larger hard drive and really have some fun. Modchips are also getting cheap now-a-days and the solderless models are really simple to install, while you don't have to get one now... I'd definitely think about it. If you decide to go the softmod route let me know and I'd be more than happy to help you out.
Thanks, I found a dealer local wise that sells modchips. I'll most likely not be investing in one for awhile, as the money funds have drained Mr.Casual: No worries, im not planning on using the mod for online cheating. When i was looking at the mods, i saw that emulators were possible via the hack, and so was game save swapping too, primarily the 2 things i'd use it for. Well, like i said yesterday, i went out and purchased one, aside from the boc weighing a ton, it was great. The only sad note is, my gamecube will have to be retired to the closet to make room for the xbox. Ryan
Remember what I said about not getting Warpath? Disregard it. The game Demo came out and it has apparantly GONE GOLD in several sites already. I totally wasnt expecting that. At all, really. Maybe Groove Games fixed what made Pariah so bad, the gameplay. I hope it has a mapmaker this time around though.
I seen a review of it recently, said it was okay, not amazing speaking of pariah, it appears no one can get rid of them..i even seen a homecenter selling pariah......... Ryan
Im ashamed to say I bought that game for full price. The mapmaker in it, however, was revolutionary for its time. They had cool tilesets and objects, BUT THEY COULDNT STACK like they could in Far Cry. Far Cry had pretty generic objects, though. I want to see more terraformers in console games in the future.
An Xbox is well worth the $100 you'll probably end up spending on it. Modding adds a lot to it's entertainment value. If you buy an Xbox, you absolutely must buy Panzer Dragoon Orta and Phantom Dust. Those are easily two of my favorite games for the system.
Heh I'm Hacking an xbox cable this evening, and i was wondering about one little thing I purchased an xbox extension cable, with the intention of splicing it with a usb cable to allow me to use it on a pc, however, every tutorial I've read glosses over one thing Notice those 2 cylindrical shaped peices on the cord?....Is it okay to cut those off, and not use them in the mod, or do they have some magical ability, in which case i need them, Both the xbox extension cable and my usb cable(which is an old usb to specific mp3player cable) have one of them Can i just cut them out? Ryan
Those look like ferrite coils/cores that are used to reduce EM interference with unshielded or cheap cables. Depending on how cheap your cables are, as well as their length and the proximity of other electronic devices, you might want to keep them on. Even though they appear to be fixed to the cable and usually won't move if you try to move it a little bit, you should be able to slide them if you apply some force. These are usually clip ons, so you might even be able to "pop" them off completely while you are working on the cable.
Chokes, they're usually called. Tranform EM interference into heat, from what vague memories I have of studying electronics. Like mairsil says, they are usually movable. Give them a good yank a bit further down the cable. They're also not usually necessary so don't worry too much if they have to go.
