Hi.. Long time I don't make a post or do any replys here.. ^^

But now I'll try to be active in the forums ..

I want to Mod my PS2 and my Xbox to play U.S. Games (I Live in Japan).. but I don't know any trusty page to buy :(

I found https://www.modchip.com/ on google, but I'm not sure about the security of the page.

Could somebody here tell me if https://www.modchip.com/ is trustfull?? or at least show a good page where I can buy my chips??

    Thanx In advance people.. C-ya.

You could just flash the Xbox and do a cogswap in the PS2

Anyways, just to know, are modchips illegal in japan?

lol in my lovely country, modchips are not illegal :) And if they are, then they are selling them anyway without being stopped, just like some years ago, where Floyd(the chef) was in DK and made food on Christiania , you could at the time buy hash without being stopped by the police, but that is now history, and the hash deals are now more underground.

that is probably the best option for you since you only want to play american games, get that if you have an old model ps2, that way you dont have to open it, and those discs are the japanese versions so they'll boot on your japanese ps2, or you can get dms4 and those pins if you dont know how to solder, but thats gonna set you back about 80bucks.

I'd make a comment about there being no law in Mexico, but I'll go straight to recommending the Swap Magic 3.x option for PS2, especially the slim one (Don't know if it'll run on japanese machines, though, but it should - I think), and a soft-mod for XBox.

How to Soft-Mod a Jp. Xbox, that is another question.
But those two are the best options I think, other than the hard-drive installation of the games.

for xbox there are bunch of latest gen chips out requiring no soldering unlike 1st gen where 29 wires had to be soldered to a spot less than 2mm in diameter... :(

soft mod would be fine though it will get tired soon if you have bunch of different region titles...
I have v1.0 US xbox with chip to play different region titles as well as PAL xbox that I built from scrap/junk parts for XLIVE...

for PS2 I just saved the hassle and got PS2 Test unit...

In most countries nobody gives a shit. I know that in spain and germany several courts declared that modchips arent illegal since they cant do others things than just playin pirated games.

Anyways, the PS2 the better is to get an old model and use it with an HD. Why? becos its DVD lens suckass (and the slim one suffer from overheating) and it`ll be broken before you know it. Plus with an HD the games load in a just a sec.

Too bad they discontinued the old model :-(

PD: I know theres an HDmod for the slimPS2, but the install is way too complex, and pretty sensible too.

    I've heard Mechassault is region-free ;).

About the PS2 overheating comment, I've had no problems at all with mine. I've even watched a few movies on it. It gets warm to the touch, but it's not like it will burn your hand or anything. Hell, my Xbox gets warmer, and it's using an upgraded fan. :)

Is it (PS2 older model) really discontinued? Because if it is, I REALLY need to get the spare parts to repair mine before they're no longer available.

I'm pretty sure they quit producing them shortly before (or after?) the slim PSTwo went into production.

I been tring to find one for MONTHS, so i suppose its no more.......

Too bad, cuz even if i find one, the network-adapter (essential to install the HD) are even harder to find

Yes, I'm pretty certain they don't make them any more, too. Though I hope to God they're still making parts!

And a word of warning to you all - if for whatever reason you are going to acquire a SCPH-30003 (the first PAL model), DO NOT under any circumstances pay money for it! I have two here, and whatever the hell's wrong with them defies logic... and probably physics as well... o_O

The EBGames stores here sell older used PS2s. I was considering buying one, until I remembered my old one.

If the tray/DVD its broken you could always use it with the HD.

If you dont use an HD, then trow that shit and buy the new slim one. I have to say its prettier, too bad that the only way to atach a HD to it is with that damn "too-fucking-hard-to-weld" adaptor

If you mean permanently attach a hard drive, then maybe that is the only solution. You could always use USB Extreme and a USB harddrive, though, if you don't mind carting it around. It's what I've been planning on doing, I just have to get some money first...

The problem is that with USB it hardly loads at the same time that the DVD, and quite a number of games suffer from lag.

With all these issues, whats the point of the HD?

PD: i heard you guys are having a hard time there with the FBI, it that true or just exageration?

Ah, I never thought about that. I guess you'd be right about it being a bit pointless.

Who are you talking about with the FBI issues?
