Hi, I'm looking to get into modding ps2 hardware, and i've seen quite a few different modchips available for the ps2. I was wondering which one do you guys think is the best, both price, and performance wise.
Well, In Australia the only easy to get chip is the modbo 4. I have used it before and seems to do everything I need. Modbo 4 is cheap, boots fast, and has no real issues also works with most models.
Agree, modbo 4.0 it's the best NOW you can find. Stay away from modbo 5 or similar clones of the clones of the clones
What do you guys recommend for the newest slim models? I tried some years ago to install the Modbo 4.0 but didn't work on the new slims but worked fine on older slims.
I don't remember which firmware it had but I couldn't get them to work but I never had an issue with them on the older slims which is why I asked. Years ago when I did the install I read people saying that it didn't work or needed some kind of mod to work and since it didn't work for me I went with what people were saying since I was in that same boat.
1.93 is the last legit Matrix firmware. Anything after that is a modification (be that for better or worse). I use 1.93 chips for everything and modded pretty much all revisions of the PS2 without issue. Only issue with the 9000x is the difficult points on the QFP chip
I just tin the right amount of solder on the strip of kynar wire and dip it in some good paste flux and turn up the heat to 350C (I usually work with 325C). Does the trick for me usually
All PAL 90k models only work with 1.93. I knew a few installers that only carried 1.99 and couldn't get them to work in the PAL 90k, so they moved to the Mars pro or DUO Ultra. Stick with any of the the 1.93 chips and you will not have a problem
