    Hi guys,

I've dissasembled my PSOne to clean it up, so I dissasembled it completely and saw that there is a metal plaque on the lower part of the outer shell. It seems to make contact with the lower part of the shielding but I'm just curious about what it does do.

Could it be removed? Is it glued? Because I wanted to wash the case and with a metal part I'm obviously not gong to do it.

    Thanks!

In the units I've worked on it seems to be held in to some degree. You could probably remove it but it was installed for a reason. That reason likely being RF shielding for FCC purposes but seriously, don't remove it unless you absolutely need to.

Might find the PSOne emits enough EMI to knock out some radio stations (probably an exaggeration but unless you can measure it you never know).

I want to remove it just for cleaning the case better, reattaching it once I'm finished. That's why I asked if it was glued or something... however I don't see any easy way to remove it so... better cleaning it the old way.

It's fine to remove, but as APEsaid put it back.
Really though, not much dirt can get into it though...

For example I had to remove mine as it shorting out my PSone causing it to not boot.

That made two PSone's I had refuse to boot. It seems like overtime it flexes slightly and shorts or something.

There's almost no room for that... not even with an iPhone plastic opening tool... anyone has had success removing it without destroying it?

You can leave them, i have washed the case with them. Just make sure you dry it well.

He is talking about the copper plates glued to the bottom half.

Oh, I wash with those on too.

And yes, I clearly misunderstood what you were talking about.

Sorry, when I posted I wasn't at home so I could not take any shot of it. I'll wash it and will clean it thoroughly, that should do the trick.

But in the worst case... does the copper oxide easily? I'm being very cautious about this, as you see.

    Anyway thank all of you!

Copper is used for water pipes etc.

    You wont have any issues.

Copper will corrode under certain conditions such as salt water. However you've got bigger problems than these plates corroding if salt water has somehow gotten to them.

You assume well :). I have washed it and dried it carefully with a cloth, specially the copper plate. For now, it seems to be as good as ever.

The older models 1001 had copper tape on the edges and top of the shielding.
It declined as you got to newer models.

Psone has a metal shield in the bottom that has plastic sonic welded attaching, it can be
pulled out and thrown away. I did this for my psone clear shell.

You can always get a clear psone shell, and use that.
Given psones are $5 these days, tear that crap out!
