Thanks, the reason I ask is that I won a game on ebay and this is what the person wants to ship to USA , shipping was not posted on auction and if it was I would not have bid on it. I have had things shipped from China for less and fast. :angry

see how much he wants to ship in the uk for?

Then i can ship it on to you if it is cheaper. Should be cheaper. Something like £5ish.

Yup www.xe.com is pretty much THE recognised currency converter.

It depends on what the game is, I guess, and what method of shipping he's using. If he is opting for Parcelforce, it'll probably be more expensive.

What kinda game is it? What packaging is it in? Does it have any special items or big manuals?

By standard airmail, £10 would ship up to about 450g, plus packaging costs. However, International Signed For is £3.30 on top, and insures the package for up to £30. That would drop the weight to 300g perhaps - probably OK for most games (a standard CD album is about 100g). This would take about 7-10 days to get to you, but up to 2 weeks.

If you were to go by any courier, then sending just a CD could easily cost you £10.

I'd say your best bet is to have it shipped to someone in the UK, then have them ship it if you think he's charging a lot. Bear in mind when doing this, if you're paying by PayPal, officially they're meant to only ship to the address registered to your account. If your seller would be funny about doing otherwise, then ask a UK board member if they would mind if you PayPal an amount made up as follows:

    Price of item
    Price of postage to them
Price of postage to you (plus extra packing if they need to open it)
An agreed fee for PayPal charges (probably around 5%)

I'm sure most of us would be happy to oblige, and don't see Paulo not agreeing as he offered :smt023

Well, if he's not making on postage costs, £2 would ship around 400-500g in the UK, taking packaging into account, and that's only standard insurance (which may be sufficient, its 63p for recorded I think).

So, if he's not making anything on it, yeah it would be £10 to the US I'm afraid.

    Let's see, though.....

Greatest Nine '97 and a SNES cart (hey, its all I had to hand!) weigh in at about 200g (if you can trust my 60 year old scales). 200g in the UK is 75p first class, then maybe 35-50p for a jiffy bag at a post office say. You've got enough to do that recorded for £2.

For 200-240g to the US, you're then looking at about £4-5. If you want insurance, it is £3.30 International Signed For (on top). Mind you, those prepaid packs are £4.50 for up to 500g, but I'm not too sure about them, whether you have to pay any extra. They say "for airsure" which is £4 on top!

There's no way it would be $20. Not even if it's sent the equivalent of EMS. That's a laugh.

I got the feeling the seller was upset because I was the only bidder, hell the shipping is about the price of the game :smt009

I have to disagree, with the poor performance of the dollar against the pound it could easily be $20

It`s a great time for people in the UK to buy from the USA, but not vice versa.

Use the calculator at http://sg.royalmail.com/servlet/ace...;AceApplication=consignia&pageId=frameset - punching in 200g of weight and £20 insurance gives £7.96 Airsure (signed for, trackable and insured) to any areas other than New York. Even paying for the packaging it shouldn't be more than a tenner, but xe.com gives that as $19.21 ATM. The only much cheaper route is surface mail (56 days!!)

I'm suprised it was that cheap as it cost me £4.50 to send a piece of A4 and 2 banknotes to France earlier this month.

Yeah. IT might end up costing you MORE to paypal two people and cover all the costs in the end then just getting him to send it to you. You might end up saving a dollar or two but wasted alot of time. That said it might end up alot cheaper. I havent checked the price for it.

I`d just pay him the £10=$19 as it would be a lot easier than getting someone else here in the UK to get it and then forward it on.

Also there is then 2 rather than 1 chance of it getting lost :angry

I do take stuff for a freind www.virtual-boy.org who is in Holland but then
I either end him a bulk batch or even take them over

tbh I wouldnt mind - a daysaver for anywhere within the area is only £2.60 which would get me on any bus on the network within the region ;) But then with the postage cost and the cost for my ass hopping on the bus it would work out about the same (with tracking etc) anyway. standard arimail though should only be about £3- £4 rammed ina jiffy bag though ... :smt1069

just look how strong the pound is compared to the dollar, ill admit its a bit pricey at £10, but its very realistic......

    sometimes I love being a UK importer :smt043 ($2 = £1 -roughly) :smt023
