Questions about N64 controller to PC USB adapters (and Rumble Pak features)

I'm thinking of getting one of these N64 controller to PC USB devices. The only problem is that I've heard the Wishtec Adaptoid brand were the only ones to support the Rumble Pak feature. Since I doubt I would ever be willing to pay what people are asking for for these, I was wondering if some people here knew of any alternatives?

I've heard that people also would make their own, but I couldn't find any links on Google. I would also like to know, if anyone has gotten their own to work, if it also enables the Rumble Pak feature.

I've also been looking at this as an alternative to the Adaptoids:

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yea, supposedly their are diagrams out their on building adaptoids, but i've yet to come across them, and last time it was asked (in the marketplace I believe) no one had a url for said instructions.

I have the one you pictured. It does not do rumble. If you serously want n64, buy an Adaptoid as the rest are just a waste of cash (i never really got mine to work for n64, i use it for ps1 tho but get no rumble).

That's the problem, they go for stupid amounts on eBay. I'd rather make my own than pay so much for just a 6 inch cable.

    Thanks for the help though.

I would imagin that it's not infact the cable that lets you use the rumble pack, but the drivers. Just like you can buy shitty Xbox - USB adaptors, but you can still use XBCD with them. Am I wrong? Maybe worth a try anyway...

think about it, if it was just a cable, the n64 controller would be usb-compatible.
    of course it isnt.
there is a small interface chip inside one of the connectors that handles the usb stuff and the bi-directional communication to the pad.

even before the adaptoid appeared, there were schematics for building your own n64-pad to parallel-port-adapter available, used to be at http://www.st-hans.de/N64.htm, but isnt online anymore.

i built one of these around 1999, shortly after ultrahle appeared.
it worked and the drivers had rumble support, but it tended to pick up noise now and then.
it was nice at the time, though.

in contrary to playstation pads, where you need a special voltage of around 7v to be able to use the rumble feature at all, it just depends on the driver for the n64.

The link to the one on Lik-Sang does support dual shock rumble, and somewhere they mention new drivers for the thing.
