That wasn't an official continuation of the series, I think it wasn't even made by the original developers. I wonder if this one is, though.

  7. I do believe that Raiden Fighters 1 and 2 were still made by the original company, Seibu Keihatu or whatever it is called. Not sure about jet tho.

And there are still shooters coming out besides this - venerable shooting gods Cave have just released their newest, Mushihime-sama, and already are doing location tests for their newest, Ibara. Shooters are far from dead. :-D

I don't think they ever caught on in the US. Most people still think of 1942.

I've started playing shooters just recently. Most I've played are hard as hell (or I suck, which is probably the case). I've got to go find Raiden and Raiden II (legal copies). What consoles were they released on? I have PC versions downloaded from the Underdogs.

There's Raiden Project for PSX which includes great ports of Raiden 1 and 2. There's also a PSX port of Raiden DX which is what I'm trying to find, its only import and most places are out of stock.

Naturally the best way to play is how Seibu Kaihatsu wants you to, on their hardware ;) BTW, Jet and Fighters are really by them (although I've never seen or played them)

YOu can find the arcade boards on ebay, but be ready to pay for shipping fees unless you're willing to drive a few days to pick it up, which will probably be cheaper, depending on how far away you live from the person who's selling it.

I think finding a way to play them is a bigger problem for most people.

No, I mean finding a way to play the arcade board (e.g. Supergun/RGB monitor and control rig) It is very cool to turn a monitor on it's side and play :D

There's a pretty long post about this over at Shmups. This news was out at the AOU show at the beginning of September. The new Gigawing is also pretty big news for shooter fans.

The game looks just like raiden fighters jet.

That's a so-so game, but all the extra planes (10?) make it feel generic.

    Raiden DX is the best.

The psx version is incredibly fun, with a "master of raiden playback" where the guy beats the entire game on one man, all secrets and max points.

The game has all kinds of hidden things, for example, if you beat the two walkers in stage1, they are normally green. If you're real good, they are red, and if insane, purple. They are pretty much godlike then, and I have only seen this after beating the game.

There is also a survival mode, which is all the bosses one after another with you having one man.

It also has a higher resolution than raiden project if I remember the manual correctly.

    A must get.
