http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-r-77-1-15-raiden-70-q7q.html I *almost* wish I had a PS2.....almost.
Lucky! I've not played the arcade version of this recently-released game, but I've seen more than enough reviews in Arcadia magazine to get a sense that I'd truly enjoy it. And it is a new Raiden game afterall, so that alone is reason enough to recommend!
I don't have a problem with MAME. It's for people who don't have fuckloads of money to buy arcade cabinets. It's probably one of the only forms of emulation I do agree with, but in the end, I suppose it's all the same. But that's another argument...
This can be played in MAME? I'm gonna look for it! I've been drooling every time I see shots of the game.
Well, I was going to ask that, too. I can't believe someone has gotten ahold of it (not to mention emulating it) this soon.
That's more like it ^_^. I did find Raiden I and II, though. Now if I could get a decently priced copy of the Raiden Project I'd be happy .
Yeah, but Taito Type X hardware (which is what Raiden III runs on) might be different...it's basically a Win XP hardware setup which technically shouldn't be too difficult to emulate, but I think the software runs on a combination of an individual hard disk and/or some type of PC card. How that will affect emulation attempts remains to be seen.
They just decrypted Raiden Fighters II I believe it was like 2 months ago... it'lll be years before you see Raiden III in Mame. Not to rain on everyone's parade, but Taito has three points AGAINST them when it comes to recent shooter ports: 1 & 2: The Psycho collection packs. Upscaled shitty graphics 3: Gigawing Generation... apparently a very poor port of an already poor game. It is ass. I'm hoping they redeem themselves with Mushihime-sama. I can see Cave only doing the deal with them if they guaranteed a quality port, as there's not been a crappy Cave port yet. We'll see in a month though.
Right, MAME a Taito Type-X game! Why didn't someone think of that sooner! Naomi 2 is smooth as butter under MAME, so why not Type-X as well? And hell, Counter-Strike Neo will be a cinch to emulate once it's released! ...I'm not sure if it's the technical inaccuracy or the suggestion of piracy to avoid buying a product that bugs me more. Either way, between Mushihimesama and Raiden III, this is going to be quite the summer for shooters. I've heard Taito hasn't had the best track record with their ports, but as my options are precisely A) Play a (possibly lousy) PS2 port or B) Don't play the game at all, I suppose I'll take my chance. I've got Mushihimesama on preorder from Play-Asia as we speak, and I'll be sure to pick up Raiden III as well. :-D
Yeah, it was quite a far fetched idea to see such a new thing emulated in Mame. I still want to play the thing to see if I get the PS2 version. Not a possibility in the arcades, I think, down here. But yeah, I was really surprised that Mame would play this. It does play that Macross Plus shooter, and it has polygons and stuff, though.
I was being sarcastic; I'm not sure if this would run in MAME at all - as SuperGrafx said, TypeX hardware is essentially a Windows PC, and most likely more powerful than mine at that! :smt043
Speaking of Mushihime-sama http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~japangaming/bonus_info.php?type=translation&b=10&p=1
Heh! I was quite impressed with MAME running that Macross game, though. It looks sweet. Not Raiden III sweet, mind you, but sweet nonetheless. Might be a bit OT, but I sort of recall seeing another Macross arcade shooter - vertical, with some images from the series. Anyone know anything about this one?
Yes, there are 2 other Arcade Macross shooter. The first (I think you mean this game ) is "Super Spacefortress Macross"/" Chou-zikuu Yousai Macross" (Banpresto, 1992) And the second is "Super Spacefortress Macross II"/"Chou-zikuu Yousai Macross II" (Banpresto, 1993), a horizontal shooter.....
Yeah! it's the first one! I saw it in the arcade downtown, when there were huge arcades in Mexico, and people could play lots of great games... before the 1994 monetary crisis. It's great that I'm not senile, also. I'm gonna go look for those now, sir. Thanks!
