So I'm trying to head to College in Canada next year, and I gotta raise £13k in 12 months, so thats little over £1k a month. After being paid at work and paying bills, I'll have to raise another £400 per month. Ideas people? I'm going to sell all my toys, my collections and my company but still looking at falling short by about £2k. Ideas please?
Hmm.. The first thing for me is the obvious. Stop spending money in clothes, drinks and leisure in general. You can actually save up a lot if you adopt a more frugal lifestyle. Having been unemployed for a long time, I know that these sort of expenditures may not seem to make a huge difference, but in reality they are. I found myself spending more than 200 dollars a month (when I had a job) in leisure activities, taxi-cab rides, etc. Leisure takes a huge toll on your finances. The most important thing is to find ways to actually do all those things you like, like watching a movie with your friends or eating with them, but in a more unexpensive manner. Instead of going out for drinks, gather at your home or at a friend's home and buy the drinks in the liquor store. It may be hard to get your friends to accept that at first, but cutting your expenses is important and this is the easiest way to begin.
Canadian schools are expensive for outsiders. My sister looked at going to a school in Windsor or maybe London, ON. It was nearly twice the price of a school in the US. K-Panggg- Is school free in Uruguay? I know that they are in Argentina, but not sure about your little country.
Yes, school is free in Uruguay. However, I personally wouln't advice anyone to attend the public university. In the past 10 years, due to budget constraints and several, hard to explain, variables the educational level of public schooling has plummeted. There is an assortment of private universities to attend, that offer schollarships and have tuition fees ranging from 500 to 1000 dollars a month (which does not include housing and food, since On-Campus regimes are not available)
If you haven't already, do what I do and sell stuff on eBay. I'm selling off my mint sealed copies of Twisted Metal III, and God of War 3. Not to plugin my crap, but I'm just showing off my game plan here.
Yeah I agree with others. Sell everything. I used to be a hoarder with books, systems and games coming out of my ears. I really wanted to travel the world badly so I sold absolutely everything apart from a camera my Macbook and a few sentimental things. I knew that if I really wanted that stuff back I could buy it again someday. It's been two years since I really owned anything and do you know what? I don't miss any of it, yeah I get tempted to splurge my pay packet on a bulk lot of MD games now and again but I resist the temptation as I always know the money will lead to bigger and better experiences down the road than owning a shed load of plastic boxes and circuit boards. Also take on a second job tomorrow. Even if it nearly kills you and you get no sleep it'll be worth it in the long run.
Do you have to pay the whole 13k up front? Surely you can pay by semester. Save as much as you can now and get a part time job whn you're there to cover the rest. That or rent out your ass.
Can't you take a loan or apply for financial aid?? In this economy an hourly wage job won't bring you that amount of money unless you sell drugs or whore-out.
Are you any good at computer repair? Not on the hardware side but more Virus removal/reformatting. You could do that on the side. I know when I did a bit of advertising my phone was ringing every hour or so for a few days from chavs with viruses off dodgy websites.
I can do both hardware and software, I should be indian the amount of tech support I do for friends and family.
