the better & older ones would be: 5 Sterne Deluxe, Fanta Vier, Toby und das Bo,
    Samy Deluxe, ...

btw: anyone seen the new R-Kelly videos?!

i hate hip-hop or rap, with just one exception:

the early stuff of german rapper taktloss, he's hilarious. =)
try getting your hands on this album: "westberlin maskulin - hoes flows moneytoes"

i dont think its any fun if you dont know german, though.
and even if you do, you would probably consider it utter crap, anyway. ;)

MOVE rocks! It's so terribly awful that it's good. Plus, their English is a work of utter comedy. We used to play them a lot in the J-Pop program we had in our College Radio. "gamble, you got a chance to make it rumble!"

Gorillaz is absolutely magnificent. I didn't know it could be classified as Rap - but if it is, then I guess I like rap.

it's pretty big here in sweden to..
    we have names like
    timbuktu (engelish and swedish)
    loop troop (engelish and swedish)
De 6 Apornas Armé (name says: the 6 monkeys army, swedish)
    PST/Q (swedish)
    ... (lots of more)

I've also listen to some norwayish group called
Gatas Parlament (name says: parliament of the street)

and some mexican (?) group called
    Delinquent Habits

and to all that hate hiphop/rap.. you really should be more open to new things and not just decide to hate something just because there are some that sucks.. all music genres have those crapy "musicans". I for example try to open my mind as much as possible.. and that have given much nice music in many different genres:
jungle, dnb, bhangra, hiphop, rap, synth, rock, punk, jazz, dub, reggae, electro... (list goes on and on)

My current favs are Outkast, Snoop, Dr. Dre's 2000 release album, Lil John, and some of Eminem's songs.

I actually listened to rap back in the late 80's early 90s when gangsta' rap was becoming very popular. Groups like NWO, Ice T, TLC, Kriss Kross, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions people. Try to keep the rap flames out of here.

  7. Great, that's just what the world needs - rapers with good talents. Or is that rapists? (I assume you meant rappers, but I couldn't resist.) :smt043

I'm definitely a total hater of the 'gangsta' inspired rap (which is about as authentic as WWF wrestling), but there are a good deal of more hip-hip-esque bands that I do enjoy. For one, nobody can dislike the mighty Beastie Boys and still be human. It's sortof a musical Voight-Kampf test to see if you're a music-hating replicant or something. Someone made mention of The Gorillaz and The Transplants - both excellent in their own right, though I found the majority of The Gorillaz' self-titled album to be rather dull - not so for Demon Dayz, however. For some absolutely hilarious (although over-the-top raunchy), I'd recommend giving The Bloodhound Gang a listen - songs like "Mope", "Fire Water Burn", and "The Inevitable Return Of The Great White Dope" are just awesome.

For foreign rappers/hip-hop, I found Orange Range out of Japan to be pretty decent. Also worth checking out is a band called Kine Em. It's a Swedish hip-hop band with vocals by two brothers who are Kurdish refugees - one of whom was an exchange student at my high school years ago. You can download a handful of their songs here, but they have rotated the really good ones out of download - use your favorite search service to try and find "Hiphopa Kurdi" or "Dam Dam Digga Digga Style".
And while they still speak English (if you can understand them), the Newport UK-based Goldie Looking Chain certainly is an import here in the states. With absolutely hilarious sense of humor and some pretty excellent beats as well, there's no excuse for not giving these guys a listen at http://www.youknowsit.co.uk. Plus, their site design is a pretty excellent homage to ye olde gaming of yesterday. Safe as fuck, clart!

As you said, ''gansta'' rap is about as authentic as WWF wrestling. :)

It's nothing about being closed minded. People just don't like it. I personally hate 90% of rap, R&B, Hip Hop, Soul and all the rest. Now, older stuff is sometimes ok but these days its dull repetitive shite, especially gangster rap.

yeah I can agree that gangster rap isn't very good.. and what I meant was mostly that most times when someone say they hate rap.. thats only b/c they have only heard this horrible "gangster rap" texts about how many girls they have, how much "bling-bling" they got and that they shot everything that is in their way... there is more to rap that that crap!

There's a lot other kinds of Rap other than the "gangsta" rap.

There's "softcore genuine with sense" rap like Kanye West, and some in between Rap & R&B like Usher & R. Kelly... :)

To me, I see the only thing gangsta rap is good for is for being hyped up right before a football game! :D

    I agree with Primergy.

That Sido is fun as hell though. You get a good laugh out of it, if you understand it.

But he is right, the "older" rappers are more for partying and havin# fun, Sido and friends are trying to ack all gangsta like 50 cent

Indeed. I guess most of the fun is in the ingenuity/meaning of the lyrics, but I'm glad you like it :)

Thought I'd make a controbution myself. This dude I know in Slovakia gave me this cd by Kontrafakt called E.R.A. It's good, a couple of songs on there get played regularly by me (Mulano Stylos and E.R.A.).

Anyone know any good Czech rappers?

I have the Yannick CD where he's rapping in French. It's a popular song. It's a French remake of the 60's song "Oh what a night late December back in 63" I think that was Frankie Valens right.

Mexican rap is the bes, I don't know what their talking about so it's even better, also the music itself has some sort of musical basis to it usually.
