But I do have the NTSC release. Wait a minute. *Pops Disc 1 into Dreamcast* And see, this is why one should check more thoroughly than just one site, or test it yourself if you have the game. That list I found must've been for PAL releases.

Ah. Now that makes a bit more sense.

Nice mods! Here's one I did today, it pales in comparison to what you've done, but I think it's useful:

Now when the Dreamcast's battery dies, I can just pop the replacement in instead of having to buy a battery with the solder tabs and soldering it in :D

That is definitely something I need to do. I'm tired of inputting the date and time on boot every damn time.

For my part, I just press the Ok buton every time without inputting the date and time.

Adding a replaceable battery is the key, done this myself (& asked mmmonkey to add to his site). I need to play my dreamcast more often, only play it when my 5 yr old nephew comes over. He loves the dreamcast shooters, "hey uncle Pete, can we play heliclopter?"

D'oh! It turns out the ML2020 battery that comes with the Dreamcast is 2.0mm thick while a ML2032 (which is the size battery the holder I posted above takes) is 3.2mm thick! That would explain the loose fit and the reason why the DC isn't getting any charge from the battery :p No matter, I have a ML2032 on the way, it's 3v and rechargeable like a ML2020, so it should be a compatible replacement.

I replace every dreamcast battery with a holder (and ML2032)

I have not had any dreamcasts that the original battery is still working.

I still have the original battery in my Dreamcast. It still works, but if I don't use my Dreamcast for more than two weeks it's dead. How long does a new ML2032 last?

Did you leave it to charge first? I thought my DC's battery was dead, but it was just flat. Worked fine after I let it charge.

Also, why would Sega have used a ML2020 originally? They seem to be rarer than ML2032, and it's not like the battery needs to be really thin to fit, since there's plenty of room.

Yes, they all get left on for hours. Power it off for 10 seconds and time/date has gone again.

Holder is better for the buyer anyway, its user serviceable.

that holder mod look great and its better than taking apart the DC just for a battery change.

You still have to take the DC apart. You just dont need to do any soldering to replace a battery

Well, you don't have to take it apart as much, no need to remove the PSU to get to the controller board which then needs to be unplugged. Just remove the 4 case screws, lift the top off, and pop in a new battery ;)
