http://www.rosecoloredgaming.com/games.html Only $299 for the standard edition and $349 for the platinum edition.. Man.. what a bargain! Unfortunately too many people with more money than brains bought them all! "The Legend of Link is a new game in the Zelda legacy released as a ROM in 2014. It was originally developed by Infidelity who spent 3 years on the project." ONLY TO BE RIPPED OFF BY ME AND TURNED INTO AN OVERPRICED REPRODUCTION, COMPLETE WITH SPRAY PAINTED CARTRIDGE AND A SHITTY FAMICOM-NES ADAPTER THAT WONT EVEN WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE A BLINKING LIGHT WIN, BUT HEY IT LOOKS PRETTY! —he should add that in there. I hope he at least gave Infidelity some proceeds from the sales...
I'm glad that you posted the prices, because they appear to be sold out. The packages actually look really neat, I could see myself easily paying $100 - $120 for one, but definitely not $300+.
That's basically my point Chief. This guy is a scum bag in my book. To all the fan boys who disagree with me: That's fine.. it's just my opinion.
Also, look at that shit compatibility though! "NOT compatible with the Retron 5" "Will only work with a front-load NES that has a blinking-light win installed" Are you kidding me with this shit? It's $350 PLUS $25 to play this already overpriced homebrew?!
According to AaronE on Nintendo Age he says that's because they're including a shitty adapter. "My main gripe with their release of LoL is their pin converter which lacks a CIC/clone/AVRCICZZ. It looks like it uses a stunner. To me it just sticks out like a sore thumb." - AaronE And it works with a Blinking Light Win, because the BLW itself has those chips on it for its multi-region compatibility. Apparently AaronE makes repros also and has made Legend Of Link before with the adapter hidden inside a NES Cartridge. This is the best part of the Nintendo Age thread: No response from RCG afterwards lol... So nearly $400 for a plank of wood with 2 buttons and a joy stick? I don't get it, is there something I'm not understanding?
I don't understand why anyone buys anything from this guy. He's a rip off artist. Just spend 5 minutes looking at custom control sticks made by the members of the Shoryuken forum and this NES stick looks like a piece of shit.. and for $400?!!? It's just a NES controller PCB inside wired to the controls... Here's some bad ass control sticks I pulled up from Shoryuken forum for contrast Actually has some proper rubber feet, so you can put the damn thing on your table without it sliding around all over the place. I doubt his wiring is even 1% as clean as this right here.. Now after seeing these, tell me you would pay $400 for that piece of shit.
Yeah neither would I, but my point is look how over the top these other control sticks are compared to that basic earthbound piece of shit. And the sad part is he will probably sell all of them, too. I just went to the B15 SDM website—the guy who made that bad ass Chun Lee stick—and he sells his sticks for £400... I mean, it's an astronomical difference in quality for about the same price. http://www.b15sdmdesigns.com/#!store/chlf
I agree that the control sticks are an absolute rip off. I've been messing with arcade hardware for over a decade and know that that is just insane markup. As far as LoL goes, I gotta say the total package seems pretty nice and I'm sure the small batch manufacturing wasn't super cheap, not close to what they want to charge, but not super cheap. I don't see a huge problem with it as long as they licensed it from the original game creator. If so, they are entitled to charge whatever they want just as we are entitled to find the price ridiculous and not buy it. If they didn't license it then I agree, it's pretty shameful as I hate seeing creators get ripped off.
I can't say for sure, but I doubt he licensed it. After all, it's a homebrew rom that is available online and is made into a repro by lots of different repro makers. His logic was probably "everyone else is doing it, so I will too." And he's really not one to license anything, as he's being sued right now for ripping off another game and making a reproduction of it. In this case he made a reproduction of Shadow Hawk, an unreleased game that he was able to get a prototype of. The ROM was never released to the public so he kept it as a RCG Exclusive release, which is a really low class move considering he had no right to the game whatsoever. His excuse basically amounts to "Somebody I know who knew somebody who knew somebody told me they asked the guy and he said it was OK." Guy is a total goober. See stories below. http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2015/04/jim-valentino-files-lawsuit-over-shadowhawk-video-game/ https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/347655-rose-colored-gaming-gets-sued-lawsuit-filed/ http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=144241 The guy has a laser cutter to cut and etch the acrylic, and he's been doing custom packaging and printing for a long time and I'm sure he's got all the machines in house. Doubt it cost him much.
I really don't like the design they went with. I guess it would be the acrylic. It just looks really amateur. I think half the reason it's so much money is that they "only made 4." The whole scarcity-equates-value mindset.
All of his products are priced high.. I think the non 'limited' ones are $300 The only thing that is not too crazy expensive is this other home-brew game he has for sale. But lets have a closer look at the quality, shall we? Notice the label peeling up on the top? And the quality spray paint job where you can still see the grey color of the original cart? So I guess $60 just buys you a junky piece of shit. Such a joke
From a business standpoint, it's not stupid. He's capitalizing on a market that can demand high costs on selective items. Ignorant customers will fall for the well-handled marketing and think that the item they're getting is "exclusive/valuable/rare/etc." It's all about the image. From my standpoint, he's a snake-oil salesman. Also I may be cheap, but $60 for a spray-painted homebrew NES cart is quite expensive.
No you're not cheap.. it's highway robbery. That game Ninja Slap is a piece of shit, too. I'm just using heavy sarcasm. You and I are on the same page. Also see my above post, I added some info about his pending lawsuit and some links to the story if you haven't heard about it already. He's being sued for 2 million bucks from a Comic Book author for ripping off his unreleased game relating to his trademarked and copyrighted character, "Shadow Hawk". Not only did he rip off the game, but he also used the guys artwork. He's screwed as the courts will 100% side with the other guy because his stuff is trademarked and copyrighted and there was never an agreement between them.
Normally I'm all over sarcasm, but the way you phrased that left me confused haha. Then again, I'm not up on prices of homebrew stuff so that certainly didn't help. Well, he'll get his comeuppance then. He'll have to sell a lot more than 4 $400 joysticks to make up court costs. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand: you can't plagiarize stuff anymore. The internet will win pretty much 100% of the time.
