For some reason, the PS3 seems like the least interesting console ever to me. Right now I do not feel even remotely attracted to it. -XboX360 has all the good shmups. ( which is possibly my favorite genre ) -Wii has some cool exclusives, a different controller scheme ( I kinda like the nunchucks). WODE is a very nice addon. I was also led to believe the Homebrew scene, emulators and stuff was very nice on the Wii. -PS3 has... God of war III? PS3 Linux? ( currently the only interesting things I can think of for the PS3 ) Also, i do not love Sony all that much ( Except for their great Trinitron CRTs) I looked at the PS3 exclusive list, checked a few titles. Did not really see anything that struck a chord so far. Cmon guys gimme reasons to love the PS3, break my illusions!!! ( Btw I love old school gameplay )
Few hate Sony more than I but you got Little Big Planet The Yakuza Series (I swear Sega is too lazy to make it multi platform) Got of War Heavenly Sword Sly Cooper 4 Sony All stars fighter Newer tales of games Plus a few Gundam games which are supposed to be really good.
Don't forget the Uncharted series and Heavy Rain. The Ico and Shadow of Colossus Collection is very good too, but hardly a reason to buy the system (especially if you already own both games). I love my PS3, but honestly I hardly ever play games on it. I use it for Blu-rays and Netflix and as a media server mainly, and it's great for those things. Then again, I rarely play my 360 these days either.
The Yakuza series has become reason #1 for me to own one, although to be honest I haven't bought anything for PS3 since the shitty Doctor Who game. Heavy Rain is overrated: it's barely a game with a plot that has more holes than Swiss cheese.
From a non-gaming perspective, it's a single box that offers Blu Ray, Netflix and media streaming via PS3MediaServer. If there's some actual software that interests you then you're on to a winner if you have an LCD telly and like things tidy.
well have wii, ps3 and x360 here, ps3 offers some real good games and has free online gaming. x360 has in fact all of the good shmups and most of the other non ps3 exclusives(duh) too. If you dont see a game which makes you wanna buy a ps3, let it be.
PS3 is a really good Media and BluRay-Player PS3 has free online gaming (if compared to 360) PS3 has some really awesome exclusive games especially for "adult" gamers: Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted Series, Killzone Series, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Infamous Series, Yakuza Series, Siren Blood Curse and of course one of the best family games of this time: Little Big Planet 1+2. Also some outstanding and unique PSN -Download-games: Pixeljunk Eden, Journey, Wipeout HD Fury, Flower, Dead Nation. PS3 still has some pretty good support with exclusive games in 2013 (The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension, The Last Guardian). PS3's Dual Shock controller is still my favourite controller of all time. I dont like motion controlled games at all, but because you have mentioned it: Move works better than Wii. So, for me the PS3 is the best console for people who like a cinema like high quality experience (no, i dont talk about FMV's games). It is not the best console for retro/emulation and, as you already have mentioned: Shmups.
Demon's Souls , that's the reason I got the PS3 and haven't regret it because two other games that I care lots (Castlevania and Dark Souls) run better on the PS3 compared to the 360 (that I also own). Just see the exclusives list and decide, that's what I did.
PS3 supports AVCHD over USB. That means with the right software (MultiMAN combined with MultiAVCHD on pc side) you can get lossless 7.1 channel, 192 khz audio over HDMI to your HT. I don't know a simpler way for this. Combined with the HT i have, PS3 is a winner. Of course you should have cfw on ps3 for full media player function.
At this point I'll be very surprised if The Last Guardian ever gets released. Heavy Rain is basically Dragon's Lair except occasionally you get to move around a little.
I hate my PS3 (and Sony in general). Only got it as I got it at a bargain price second hand for a blu ray player.. Everytime I have tried to play it theres always a new update that litterally takes up to 40 minutes - what a joke! Retro gaming is best ;-)
Personally I think PS Plus is a great reason to have a PS3. It's cheap and you get a ton of free games with it. Yes there is the argument that you don't actually own the games but I don't feel the same connection with any downloaded games as I do physical copies so it's not a big deal for me. Some games I never would have tried if they weren't free and I ended up really liking them.
Down the line I might get that new PS3 and a VITA... then I'll have basically a better Wii U (SUCK IT NINTENDO)
I've had a PS3 for a long time now. I rarely ever play it. I like Mobile Suit Gundam so I did enjoy Gundam Crossfire. I also like 3D Dot Game Heroes but I never did finish it. Think Zelda 1. I did picukp Ninja Gaiden Sigma to replay that game sometime. But mostly my PS3 sits there, doing nothing. I even did try out Blu-ray with Terminator 2. It looked nice. But overall I'm not a big fan of the PS3. It's ok but with the 360 there are alot fewer reasons to play it.
This is what I was thinking of! I agree completely, and many others in this thread have pointed out other great PS3-exclusive titles. Also, in addition to free online service, you also are able to watch Netflix, Amazon Instant, etc. without having to FIRST pay for a Sony service (unlike the 360, where MS forces you to have Xbox Live Gold in order to use your subscription-based services). If you can find a PS3 on the cheap, I'd say it's a worthwhile investment. While it is definitely my least-played console, it certainly does have a lot of quality titles. Just my 2 cents. :]
Internet TV and bluray/DVD convenience aside, anything by Q Games (PixelJunk series) or Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet series) or Titan Studios (Fat Princess) is usually worth a punt.
When it comes to games and content, the PS3 shines brighter than any of the three when optimized properly, and I think that it has the most stamina in the long run, but it's game library and online services are still it's biggest weakness. Sony relied far too much on every other format the console supports and in the process, they didn't invest enough time getting a wider variety of PS3/PSN content. Compared to XBLA, the PlayStation Store always seemed kind of barebone, and it seems that in order to get anything particularly interesting off of it, you have to get a PlayStation Plus account. Between X360 and PS3, though, it's interesting to see how much they've matured from what they initially were. I didn't like the Xbox 360 at all when I got it in 2006 because I saw it being capable of much more than what it did at the time and the chance of getting the RRoD was pretty high, but Microsoft exceeded the majority of my expectations. I think the PS3 would have been a lot better off without the security trolls because Sony ended up having to put so much time and effort into reinforcing everything that quality began to slip in many other respects. I'm all for reverse engineering and hacking, but it got way too personal when Linux got removed. Previously owning a hacked PS3 myself, I've noticed that Sony has gotten a lot more militant about almost everything regarding the system. It's irritating that it has to recover the file system every time someone uses the I/O kill switch. It was placed there for simple convenience and it's turned into a major inconvenience.
One thing nobody's mentioned yet is that the PS3 is very good for playing PSX games - every model, even the Slim. It's probably the best way to play them on an HDTV, although not as good as playing them on a CRT. Not a major selling point, but good to know.
