Well I finally upgraded my handheld system to a PSP, up until Monday I was still playing off a Gameboy Color. Unfortunately the game roster completely sucks for the PSP, but considering I only paid $140 for it, I decided to take the PSP over the Nintendo DS. Right now the only game I have is PoPoLoCrois, which has turned out to be a pretty nice little gem of an old school 2d RPG. I just ordered a 2 gig memory stick too, so I can load this bad boy up with movies and tv episodes. I am looking for some other good games to get though, but most of the games I've seen have gotten pretty mediocre reviews. Anybody have any reccomendations? I'm pretty open to game types, but I do enjoy RPG's on handhelds because they pass the time really well at my boring job. Thanks! [Edit] While we are on the subject, does anyone have any screenshots of the FF7 remake that is supposedly coming out for the PSP? I haven't been able to find anything other than a short description of the game and changes made to it.
I love both ToCa Race Driver 2 and Fifa 06. Archer Mcleans is also great if you are out for some puzzling action. GTA is terrible, keep away from that one. Cool games: Pro Evolution Soccer 5, Virtua Tennis World Tour, Burnout. That's all I can remeber now... I'm really waiting for OutRun 2 and Monkey Ball to come out. Pocket Racers looks great too. Lots of good games coming soon
FFVII CC is a whole new game, not a remake. There are only videos of this one at the moment and no actual game footage. I can only guess what this game will be like! I would get Guilty Gear, Sengoku cannon, Street Fighter Zero3, Lumines, Vampire, etc. Rpgs belong on the big screen. I just like to pop in an arcade game on my PSP - for the record the Drum game taiko - is really, really moreish.
>>GTA is terrible, keep away from that one. Totally disagree. It's excellent IMHO. Lumines is simple but well implemented. Dont' think Star Wars Battlefront is suited to PSP - I've bought it but it's visual scope and control doesn't suit it self to PSP. I could be too used to the PC version tho. Densha de go - sad but addictive, unless you have a predisposition to Japan things or trains(!) then I wouldn't bother, otherwise it's cool.
Take it back and get a DS. Trust me. I had one and if you like to play games PSP is not the system to own. I liked Lumines and Wipeout. I traded mine in for a pstwo and guitar hero. I couldnt be happier about that transaction. When the inital wow factor runs its course, fact is your left with nothing thats fun to play. I should mention I just cant get into the GTA games so that was never a "killer app" for me.
Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up. I really wasn't getting much info at all from what I had read, I was under the impression that it was going to be a remake/expansion of sorts. Unfortunately for me, the only time I have to play RPG's is at work. When I'm at home, I'm usually too busy doing school work or fixing crap around here to be able to play videogames for any period of time. I work night shift in a gas station right now, so I generally have 5-6 hours of quality gaming time at my hands in the average evening, which makes it prime for RPG's. Thanks for the reccomendations though, I will defnitely have to look more into some of them, especially Guilty Gear, I didn't even realize they had put one out for PSP.
I don't really play many RPG's, but I still try to keep up with them. I've heard good things about The Legend of Heroes, but it's nothing really "new and exciting". I also saw that you'll be in London through the 11th, which means youll be there when Breath of Fire III and Tales of Eternia are released. Those two games don't have a US release scheduled yet, so you might consider them if you like those series', not having to pay for shipping or waiting for them is a plus too. If you're into racing games, I definately recommend Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racer, both are really fun and you should be able to pick them up real cheap now. Personally, I liked GTA: Liberty City Stories... it's nothing new, but I like the series. You'd like it if you liked any of the others. Nothing else I can really recommend, I haven't played that many games for the PSP.
My best games are lumines, wipeout and ridge racers. GTA is so-so, Virtua tennis is good for a while, but gets boring. Burnout legends is pretty good, but the XBOX version with its triggers for accelleration is much nicer, if less portable
Legend of Heroes is better than PoPoloCrois in my opinion, less buggy and more enjoyable, even though there are a few spelling/grammatical errors. Hot Shots Golf is an essential purchase. As it Wipeout. Metal Gear Ac!d is a great game but slow to start, and don't think of it as a MG game and you will be fine. Namco Museum Battle Collection is awesome as long as you are a retro fan. Tokobot is an enjoyable platformer-y game. There are plenty of good games out there, it just depends what your tastes are. Oh go away fanboy, there are good and bad points to each handheld, even I have given up taking the piss out of the DS because it finally has some games worth playing, as does the PSP.
Strange, I am a big fan of the GTA series. But the PSP version doesn't do it for me. The screen is way too blurry, the GFX are really dirty, control is no good AND I can't play the mp3 stored on my PSP with it.
Ha. No fanboy here. Mario Kart friend mode wifi kicks more ass than anything PSP can offer. I cant play my buddies across the world with any PSP game. IMHO PSP has unexciting ports with a shady analog stick(just one? WTF Sony). Hot Shots was good but why didnt they use the analog to hit the ball instead of the lame old tap the button twice. How can a person that had one be a fanboy? I wasnt too proud of my DS untill Kirby Canvas Curse hit, but man ever sence that thing has been on a roll(no pun intended)!! I hear ya funk on the GTA points. I finally thought Id get into one if I could take it with me, but to no avail. DS could use more RPGs but plenty of good ones exist for GBA. If you want to base your choice on taste of games DS kills PSP due to the GBA library. Look DS offers new games and experiences that just have not been done yet. Im sorry but innovation is sorely needed in games right now and PSP has zero.
what, no ridge racer?, great graphics, good control, what's not to like?...and it has rally x on it aswell... if your more into main stream gaming, tony hawk underground 2 id good, and afforable at around $20, same goes for ATV fury: Blazin trails, which to me, is a port of ATV 3, TOCA 2, is essintial, every form of racing possible, Medieval resurection is also a good game, and lets not forget wipeout! Ryan
I think you will find you can And the DS doesn't have any ports of games say out on the N64, DS, GBA? Compared to the DS'... how many analogue sticks? Because that would control like shit? You tell me, you seem to have managed it fine. Yes, what a fine game that was, so full of depth and in no way a copy of another DS game that came out a few monts before it, identikit games anyone? So you are really saying, get a GBA Yes, Mario Kart, Mario 64, Animal Crossing, Metroid, all 100% original games... Most games have some roots in another game, the DS has very few games that are original, you only have to look at the millions of flash games out there that have been doing the rounds for years to see most of what people claim is "groundbreaking" on the DS.
I think someone put on thier grumpy pants today. Hey just an opinion man, no need to get so defensive. Lets see if this helps $ony for eth win!!
Ok, that almost made me fall out of my chair laughing... And that finished the job... thanks guys
Pro Evo 5 will make you pull your hair out in frustration, yet it will also make you want to play it more and more. Kingdom of Paradise is a good Action-RPG type game. Lumines is also good, I cant help but feel that this game was influenced by Rez.
IMO, Must buys are.. .) Katamari Damacy .) Exit (freaking great game) .) Ridge Racers / Burnout .) Tales of Eternia (Sure its a port but man it freaking looks great on the psp) .) Namco Museum (buy usa ver, more games) .) Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper (Its a fantastic port with many more modes added in). .) Luminies There is many more but atm i feel one should own atleast all them so far (i lack katamari atm, Also lack sfz3du since it went missing durring shipping). ................................................................... I feel like adding my two cents (FYI, I own both a psp & ds) Strike 1 Buddy. Psp had online games at launch. So far the psp game with the best online play is "Socom: Fireteam Bravo." The next online gem for psp will probably be "Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror." Note that on both thies games sony sent out beta builds to psp gamers to test the game out online. Oh yes, DS has no ports what so ever. :banghead: Have you ever actualy played hot shots golf? If you want a golf game that uses the analog. Go buy tiger woods which uses it in both versions for the psp. He isn't. It's when he makes uninformed opinions and passes them off as facts that he becomes a fanboy. I will admit, Kirby Canvas imo is one of the DS best titles. I still find it better then most of the newer games. Then why not buy a gba. It's a hell of alot cheaper. Yes because the DS has nothing but inovative ideas. Take for instance nintendogs. Nobody has ever done a pet sim before. Wow, thanks nintendo !! :banghead: Also sure GBA can't be innovative either (it dont have a touch screen). Yet some how WarioWare Twisted beats the shit out of WarioWare DS. Alot of the DS software is not really that innovative and it does not need to be. For some reason many gamers instantly think that since there is a touch screen, it makes everything innovative which is far from the truth. Remember the DS is not the first handheld or handheld game system to have a touch screen
