Ok I just got back into Shoot em up arcade style games. I had some free time yesterday so I sat down with my Emulation Xbox and started up some CPS2 goodness. Playing GigaWing was like love all over again  So I am after some more shootem goodness. What shooters do you guys recommend that are the same style as GigaWing. I would prefer the same graphics period (PC Engine ones are good but I have played most of them) Anything will work but ones that can be emulated on the PSP and Xbox would be the best for me. I also found out that Giga Wing was made on the DC so if anyone has a extra copy for cheeps let me know and thanks! :rambo:
Basically you're asking "Please recommend me games that I can play for free on an emulator without making any attempt to go and buy them..."
ouch...... I was under the impression that most of these type games are arcade games? I cant really go out and buy 100 diffrent arcade cabs? I even asked in my post if someone has a DC copy of GigaWing I can buy from them? I know there are alot of shooters on DC but most are NTSC-J and I dont have a way to play them The biggest reason for saying about the emulators though is so I can put them on my PSP.
We'll you are in luck, Dreamcast wise! With the use of a free bootdisc (like the dcx demo) you can boot all regions! My favorites: - Zero Gunner 2 - Ikaruga - Under Defeat - Mars Matrix Others you will probally enjoy - GigaWing - GigaWing 2 - GunBird 2
All those on the DC? I really want a copy of GigaWing 2 for the DC but I didnt see any but 1 on ebay and its in Japan I havent played alot of these games but I really enjoy them. I espc. like the crazy million bullets kind ^^
If you really like GigaWing, then definitely go for Mars Matrix. Castle Shikigami is another good one, and if you're willing to emulate, Axelay for the SNES.
All the games I posted are on the Dreamcast. And I believe that even GigaWing 2 is released in the US aswell. (and Mars Matrix definitly)
IMO, Mars Matrix is really the best one of the Takumi shooters. It takes the shield/reflect concept to a whole new level. On top of that, the Dreamcast port is simply supperb. The Giga Wing 1 port has annoying load times, the Giga Wing 2 port has slowdowns, the Mars Matrix port is simply perfect (no noticable load times, a ton of options and unlockable specials).
And just to let you know, arcade games are interchangeable You need one cabinet or supergun, and you are, in almost all cases, set (for shoot em ups anyway)
If you're playing them on the PSP, you're doing it wrong. Progear is the best CPS2 game... good luck playing it on an 1 inch screen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6qzcQUV9Nk Sorry to be the one to tell you there's no Santa Claus, but Mars Matrix is perhaps the worst CPS2 port of all the really poor CPS2 ports. Problems are: -Nasty filtered graphics (I believe all CPS2->DC ports are like this. Gigawing definitely is) -Offset viewing ratio (yes, the default view ratio is wrong) -Different point values which skew scores. You cannot use the DC version as competitively practice for the real thing. Basically you crucify the game to get unlockables. Sell your copy & play it in Mame. ??? -- would those be the ones found in the Naomi version? Get Dodonpachi. It's pretty much what started that fad. If you want to hate yourself, buy Dodonpachi DOJ for the PS2. ESPGaluda is great as well. Mushihime-sama is a horrible port, but fun.
I have Mars Matrix, Progear, and GigaWing all on my Xbox with many other CPS2 games and I love all of them. I had no idea that Mars Matrix OR GigaWing 2 was released on the DC in the USA. You guys have no idea how happy this makes me ^^ I have been looking for new games to add to my 60+ DC collection. Until now it was all the big 3D hits like Power Stone, Sonic, RE, ect... I just play themon the PSP when im on the go, I prefer to play them on my 30" Flat Screen CRT.
I edited my post a few times. Don't buy Mars Matrix. Not worth it. Play it in Mame. Giga Wing 2 is a faithful port (same hardware).
You really ought to get ESPgaluda for PS2. I've been playing it a lot lately. The prequel to that game, ESPra.de., is also really good, and you can play it with MAME (not that I'm encouraging you to do so, wink wink).
I watched some crazy youtube videos of these games called: MUSHIHIMESAMA FUTARI MUSHIHIMESAMA I looked on Ebay and theres only 2 of the second title and both are 80$+ and in Japan I was hoping to emulate them somehow before I toss that much cash down on them but I think they are Naomi hardware? Is Chankfast able to handle Naomi ISO's and even if it can I wouldnt know where to get the images of those games. I checked into MarsMatrix and the other NTSC DC CPS2 ports. All seem fairly cheap so im bidding on some. At low prices might as well pick them up, even if I still only play them through emulation.
Mushihime-sama Futari is Arcade/PCB only and will stay that way for a long time. No SH3 emulation on the horizon and looks like Ibara was the last Cave game to get ported. The PS2 Mushihime-sama generally runs about $60 if you go searching around forums, or $35-$40 for the budget release. If you're serious, I can get you either of them. ESPGaluda is great (and a great entry to Cave as it's very easy). It's not a sequel to ESPRade though. The only thing these games have in common is that the PS2 version of Galuda has an arrange mode that plays with a mixture of both games' scoring mechanics (and a shitload of bullets). So fucking hard. I've gotten to the last boss, but can't beat him.
Okay, I misspoke. I rather meant to compare the quality of the Takumi DC releases against each other, not the Arcade-->DC port quality. And all the things you criticized never really bothered me and are negligible when you look at the features and presentation of the DC version. If I wanted to play it competitively, I would use arcade hardware anyway. IMO it is totally worth buying, because it is one of the best shmups on DC, and it is better than the faithful GW2 port.
They may not have bothered you, but they're hardly negligible. In fact, in port terms they're pretty unforgiveable. Crappy, filtered 2D graphics is a pretty common thing on the DC...most 2D games feature them, but the whole fucked up ratio thing is just icing on the cake. And changing the scoring... heresy in the shooting game world. Whether the game is better or not is of course, opinionated, but it is obviously far less faithful. It's a great game, don't get me wrong. It's just a shame that most people that play it won't experience it.
I know it isn't that good, but i just love Philosoma (PS1). I would also suggest Raiden III, R-Type Final and Gradius V(PS2)
