Hello there! I got recently a 3DS XL and the games are expensive by here (R$150, equivalent to $70), and i need tips of what flashcard i should get... I'm currently interested on a R4i Gold 2014 Deluxe, that (sorta) runs 3DS and DS games. There is too one called Gateway, but the price is very expensive and it only runs on below patch v4.5... Thanks!
I have a R4i for my son's 3DS LL (XL) and it works 100% fine. I'm not sure why you wrote "sort of works". You must buy an official one though. There are many fake R4i cards out there. The official R4i site tells you how to spot a fake from a real one.
Some games don't save or doesn't display in 3D... :/ Probably my choice will be the R4i, and they aren't too expensive by here... I've saw some fake ones for sale... I've already found 5 of them (label badly made, SDHC writted on the PCB, and others).
There are no 3DS flashcarts that work on firmware higher than 4.5 yet. If yours is higher, you're a bit out of luck unless a new exploit is found.
Gateway was the first and the others have just cloned their hardware I think. The main differences would be in software. Apparently on the latest beta firmware compatibility is 4.5 sysNAND + 7.1 emuNAND + Gateway 2.0b2 ROMs: Plays all ROMs, including Zelda ALBW and Batman, except for NANDsave ones like Pokemon X/Y Retail: emuNAND Classic Mode plays all retail games, including NANDsave ones like Pokemon X/Y Online: Does not work for ROMs, works for all retail games eShop: Works in 7.1 emuNAND Gateway Mode Game Patches: Can be downloaded for ROMs and retail games Apparently it's easy to brick your 3DS if you buy a clone. I've never really looked into 3DS carts sorry, only DS.
Gateway's loader includes code to brick the whole console if a clone is detected. However, their code is so bugged it also fires when you're using the diagnostics menu or just having bad luck apparently. Decide for yourself if you want to support them.
Why many have done the NAND dump mod on their 3DS. You can always unbrick was a Raspberry Pi. I haven't been able to find a 3DS on low enough firmware to try the product but without a doubt there are lots of cases of bricks. So if you have a Limited Edition 3DS I would get another one to use it with until it's way more stable.
Still I would think again before supporting a developer that intentionally breaks consoles of end-users. Having to fight competition is a lame excuse for that. But like I said, you have to decide for yourself.
Oh of course, it shows they don't really test their product enough. It's also not that affordable either, you'd expect it to be safe to use for that price.
That's pretty crappy of them, especially at the price they're charging for it. I hope another card better than theirs comes along soon.
Gateway is very expensive by here ($150 or R$350), and there's a lot of cases of bricking the system. Any others?
If you aren't bothered about 3DS games, Supercard DSTWO is probably the best NDS flashcart on the market.
There's alot of misinformation being spread here. Technically there have been no bricks by Gateway users who just use the card as intended (buy the card, use the firmware from the Gateway site). In other words its very stable unlike some of the clone cards. Where people get into bricking situations is modding the gateway file that goes on your SD card. This file could come from one of the clone cards or even from that region free hack that went online a few months ago (and caused bricks). If you use the Gateway card as they show on the website, you will not have a brick. Now is there bricking code within the latest Gateway firmware? Technically yes. If you use an R4 clone card with Gateway firmware you may hit that bricking code. But again if you use the Gateway card as intended you'll be fine. The reason the code is there is to punish users who use the clone cards and gateway firmware. They may take that code out in the next firmware update, who knows. I have a Gateway card and it works fine. I'm using the 2.0b1 firmware. The 2.0b2 firmware supposedly has that bricking code in it. Technically since I only use Gateway's card I have nothing to worry about but to be safe I use 2.0b1.
I imagine there would be clone cards that come preloaded with the Gateway firmware? So someone could unknowingly buy some clone and get their system bricked. I could see bricking the card maybe, but the system just seems wrong. Purposefully bricking a system should never be accepted. (especially considering that they make these flash carts to enable people to pirate games, but they punish people who pirate their stuff)
i have been using my gateway card for about 5 months now and it works flawlessly. it has run every rom i have thrown at it. just waiting for the new 2.0 firmware for multirom support. its pricey, but it works great.
Nope, that's not true. There have been lots of false positive bricks. And how that's triggered has been researched and proven.
Ok good find there but look at his stats though. He booted the card and system 150 times no bricks. But when he ran system diagnostics and booted it resulted in a brick. I agree that this is proof of a brick using gateway and I missed that post on gbatemp but there is no way its done through normal use. Hes also using the b2 firmware which has that crazy code in it. If you use the b1 you should be fine. i think right now there is no 100 percent no brick solution but the safest bet is gateway with the b1 firmware.
I didn't trigger a fight, right? Oh well, my system arrived yesterday and the system came with 6.1.0-12... Darn. Does anybody know a place to buy an genuine R4i cart on Aliexpress? There's a lot of them, like this one here, and it looks like real...
