Is it Nintendo that's thinking that, or all the people watching thinking that..? I think the Love Plus limited systems that Konami just announced puts a nail in this rumor's coffin.
just my 2 cents... from 3ds and dsi xl there's just 30 euros but i keep see people buying XL in shops. this means something really bad!
They should release a 3DS model with a high quality OLED screen with better battery life and the 3D effect removed, I'd buy that.
Why would you want the 3D effect removed? You can already turn it off. How does this fact fail to get across to people?
I don't see how that applies to Fabrizo's comment. If it had an OLED screen, you'd most likely be paying more. If you think 3D is a "gimmick," I wonder if you'd like to wear an eye-patch for the rest of your life. Arrrrr...
Nah man, OLED screen are becoming the standard, already cheaper than IPS and soon even cheaper than regular LCD. The 3D screen on the 3ds was almost custom made, and its by far the most expensive part in the 3DS. However releasing a 3DS WITHOUT the 3D would be a epic fail of catastrophic proportions, given all the crap nintendo said about 3D being the next big thing.
What would they call a 3DS with no 3D anyway? Doubt they're gonna remove it, they'd just be left with a more powerful but still overpriced version of the DS.
If you're an early adopter you know the drill. You get the first model with unknown problems with an unknown amount of games coming out at an unknown rate with an unknown value for every variable. It will be more expensive than the second model. It will also not be as capable as the second model. Sucks they didn't wait but that is the life of an early adopter. If they have any reason to be angry it is that they can't do impulse control at what is beyond obvious about being an early adopter. So fuck early adopter rage. Nintendo wants to make a profit and gain market share, they have the right to set their MSRP however they want. Doesn't mean we have to like it but everyone and their mother knows that new consoles start out expensive and go down in price. Another durrrr? Nintendo always releases revisions of their hardware unless it fails quickly enough that they can't push one out such as the Virtual Boy. Even the Super GameBoy had a second revision.
I'm not angry as a early adopter. I was willing to pay a little extra to get it early. I think it was worth it. Plus, I get free games now. I don't really care if they release a "2DS," (which I think is unlikely anyway) because I still want the 3D screen. What would piss me off is if they stopped making 3D games, but again, I don't think that's gonna happen. I also don't care much if they release a better version, because I don't think there's really anything wrong with the current model. If it's really wayyyy better, I can always sell mine and get the new model.
Tone down the 3D effect=TURN THE SLIDER DOWN. Pretty simple eh? The way everyone is acting about the whole thing is fucking inane. And if they make a 3DS lite or some silly shit like that, i'm sure it will suck just as much as the DSlite did. Among the problems they are not even anywhere near as durable as the 1st generation DS.
I know you can turn off the 3D effect already, but the image quality still pales in comparison to a similar resolution OLED display. OLED screens are used in just about every half way decent cell phone these days so would probably cheaper then Nintendos proprietary one. Plus battery life would probably get a nice boost as well. I'd rather take a high quality screen over optional stereoscopic 3D any day.
Which phones use OLED screens? I was only aware of a Sony one. I know the iPhone 4 uses an LCD. In any case, the 3DS looks pretty good in 3D or 2D mode.
Samsung's Galaxy S class phones use Super AMOLED displays. The Galaxy S II uses a Super AMOLED Plus display, superior to the so called "retina display" Apple uses. Hooray for marketing. Though personally I can't really see a huge difference between my Samsung Captivate over the iPhone 4 in terms of screen quality.
S  As for a revision being the better option as far as a new screen goes, everyone knows that the more revisions an item generally has then the components tend to be cheaper and/or of a lower quality or chipsets become multi-integrated etc to reduce costs. Given a choice over a piece of launch hardware of a unit that's 12-18 months plus into its lifecycle I know which one I'd rather be choosing.
OLED screens are not that great. They have to be sealed away from open air. A crack on the screen can let air in and corrode the OLED screen. (It's called "rot", btw.) They look good, but if you want a handheld to be Nintendo Tough, you just can't use such delicate tech. Look at the GP2X Wiz. A good number of people have had problems with their screens, despite the build quality being equal to something Sony would produce.
The 3ds screen shouldnt be custom, as its a Sharp (I believe) screen, variations of which are in other devices at this point. I don't want to see a Lite, the 3ds is too small as it is.
