Anyone remember when broken Xboxes used to be worth a lot? Back in 2007, they would be selling for over $60.00 a broken console. Nowadays, you'd be lucky if you get $20.00 for just one broken console.

The point of the thread was to reminisce. Not meaning to spam. The broken Xboxes were what got me into repairing video game items.

They're less lucrative now than they were for any reason other than XBMC for the XBox can't handle HD video very and in order to get HD out of the XBox in the first place you need to acquire out of production cables.

When a dead HDD meant little Johnny's XBox was now useless to him it meant that for $30 I could drop in a $10 modchip and have a XBox with a 500gb HDD. These days you're hard pressed to find a large IDE drive that isn't likely to crap out in the next 6 months to 2 years and most people own a 360 or a PS3. If you don't XBMC runs on things a hell of a lot more powerful than a XBox and can handle 1080p much better as well as having a built in HDMI connector.

I like the fact they're cheap now but what I don't like is that having one shipped out costs more than the XBox itself. On top of that DVD-ROMs for the bloody things have gotten to the point where they cost more than the XBox itself does!

IDE to Sata convertors work perfectly and cost next to nothing, but unfortunately dont allow locking the hard drive(at least the ones Ive tried), but most of the machines floating around are 1.0-1.4 so hard flashing it solves that :)

Wish I could find some $30 broken machines here, theres a huge demand :D, cheapest I ever bought a xbox for was R200 ($22) fully working, but that was pure luck, some one sold it at a Pawn shop, they thought it was broken because it didn't play 360 games :p

I got both my 1.1 and my junker 1.6 for about $70 USD combined. They were both working until my 1.1 died and I robbed my 1.6 to fix it.

There really are mixed signals on this forum, people complain about users with 50 posts or less not contributing enough to the forums to have a meaningful opinion on decisions that affect the site, yet when a simple discussion is started it's because their boosting their post count?

We're not all retro tech experts and often cannot contribute to many discussions in a meaningful manor, this person comes on here for a chat and to make friends and gets berated for spamming?

    *sigh*

Broken 360's were often jtaggable, people were then getting the keyvaults and hosting COD lobbies.

Now thats not happening, they are worth less.

    Pretty simples

$20 for a broken console? I just bought a working one the other day for $20. I got a good deal on it, mind you, but I can easily find working ones for $30 here with usually 2 controllers.

No simply trying to figure out which system he was referring to, as the year he posted was 2007 and broken 360s existed then. But now that its clear we can carry on conversation :]

Original broken xboxes for $60 in 2007? You could buy working ones for that easily here.

You can pick them up working for £10 here without any trouble.
