Am getting as region free bios chip in a few days and just wondered what method is best used to remove the bios chip? I have a hot air gun but no sure if the bios chip is too large to use this tool to remove the chip or not, or if people just cut the legs off?

Insulate the surrounding components with aluminum tape or foil and use some flux and heat that bitch up, it'll be easily removed in no time.

I just cut the legs with flush cutters, then gently swipe along each pad with a soldering iron to remove the remnants of the legs.

I don't have any tape but I have some kitchen tin foil guess that would do wouldn't it?. What's a good temp to set the hot air gun at 350c?

Guess that would be the quicker option, but I'd rather leave the chip in a working state.

Have noticed when you remove the top shielding to expose the mainboard there a chip that has a thermal pad stuck to it, does this pad need replacing or can you just replace the shielding again and it will 're stick to the shielding?

You can just put the shield back on, no problem.
