First of all i'm glad that i'm seeing the Forums back. (i was a reader for a long time and now that i needed to sign up forums where down). Well when forums was offline i took some chancies to ask on assemblergames on facebook via pm. I guess not much time for replying on long posts on fb so i'm copy-pasting my pm Any question or hint would be nice Thanks
It might be the laser or the modchip. After all, the 1001's (the early ones at least) had shit lasers (specifically the KSM-440AAM) while the later ones were more reliable such as my August 1996 1001 (KSM-440ACM). Remove the modchip and see if it plays a black disc game normally before assuming its the laser. If it doesn't play its the laser. If it does its probably the modchip.
Well the laser makes really weird noise which i don't remember at all. And i can't be sure but i think i also twerk the pot up on laser many years before. But i don't have any clue in which place is the modchip(I was really young back them so it was placed by a store), but i could later put up a photo of my Psboard. also do i have to use any soldering machine or something to remove the modchip or for putting it back if it's ok? Cause as i said i'm totally newb when coming to those things, i also tried to measure the ohms but i couldn't make it(i believe for the reason i said before ) Also sorry for my bad english, i'm trying to write the better i can. Thanks for ur time Regards Edit:// i was remembering wrong and my model is SCPH-1002 with KSM-440ACM laser and not the SCPH-1001 as i mentioned before, edited the first post also.
You, theorically, shouldn't make any adjust. But remember, psx ebay lasers can vary from average product to complete shit... In that case you need to play a little whith pot on the ribbon or on the unit itself
I haven't seen any well built replacement PSX optical pickups for years. Many of them have poor tolerances, and although they will work in the newer units with the digital CD servo are very unreliable or even unusable in the SCPH-100x machines. What sort of environment was the console stored in? I have seen a number of PSX that have been in long-term storage that had a layer of dust on the turning mirror below the lens, and which worked fine once it was cleaned. You just have to remove the optical pickup sled from the frame, remove the cover over the lens assembly and then (gently!) move the lens up and to one side so you can clean the mirror using a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol.
Considering now notoriously crappy the laser is on the early model PS1, it's entirely possible that the laser has gone. Even if it hasn't, it will eventually, so you might as well replace now. For replacements, the laser that came in the PSone is very good and will fit s normal PS1 if you swap the plastic cover over. In the meantime, try loading the disk with the console upside down. If it loads now, then it's definitely the laser.
