Great video, thanks. I'm thinking of replacing the stock PSU using the method in the video. As I have a GDEMU do I still need to connect the 12v wire to the board? Is this the beat way of reducing the heat when usinga GDEMU? Thanks for all the help everyone.

You shouldn't need the 12v connected, but it doesn't matter much either way these power supplies are much more efficient and won't add significant heat like the original power supply.

I'm about to attempt this mod for both Dreamcast and Saturn and I'm in the process of ordering parts. I was hoping someone could post a link to a proven quality power brick to use for both systems after the pico is installed. I've checked eBay and it's hard to tell what's going to be junk or not.

    Thanks!

Could you confirm please fir DC with GDEMU or USB GDROM, a pico without 12V connect is sufficient?

That is how I run my Dreamcast. No 12v connected, just 3.3v and 5v. I'm using a USBGDROM

12v is only used to power the original GD ROM

I have been using the power supply from my seagate external drives. It is 12v 2 amps. Very small and is so far very reliable.

    Is 2amp really enough?

It will probably work for most situations.
The original power supply would supply 12v 1a, 5v 3a, and 3.3v 3a as its maximum output.
We don't use 12v so we have a maximum of 25w that the system could draw off the voltages we use. Its probably a lot lower than that in reality most supplies are built for a good margin of error.

12v 2a power supply provides 24W of power, the PicoPSU is fairly efficient at power conversion but for the sake of this we can assume its 80% effiecient so we should see around 20W of power into the system. I would personally suggest at least a 12v 2.5a supply just to be safe but I don't see why it wouldn't work with less power. The quality of the external supply is much more important as a cheaply made one will introduce noise into your picture and just make it look bad.
