Soldier pad is probably the best home experience ive had with Streetfighter, great on 3DO.

It actually is quite comfortable! I bought mine at a Toys R Us clearance sale for something like $3.99 and never regretted it.
Very stable controller with good tactile feedback for the buttons.

I've used the Genesis versions. They're quite good. They also work well with Galaga on Atari 7800!

  11. If anyone has one of those to get rid of cheap, let me know - I'm always searching for new fighting game controllers.

Though if you are a fan of fighting games on the Genesis and SNES, I'd highly recommend the Capcom Power Fighter Stick if you can find one - they work beautifully, and in fact do an excellent job with any arcade port for that more authentic feel - shooters especially are more enjoyable this way.

Go play Progear with a pad and then say that.

  14. I find Gradius III, Cotton 100%, Darius Twin, and Super R-Type on the SNES, and Sagaia and Steel Empire on the Genesis to be loads more fun (and precise) with a stick than with a pad. I've even hooked my monster of an arcade stick up to my PC for the various Mame shooters (both horizontal and vertical) that I have, and a pad just doesn't compare.

    /sort of off topic/

    GSL

Ever tried R-Type Final with a Stick? I've got this PS2/USB hybrid stick that was cheap as hell, but even has vibration feedback... man, it makes the game much more intense to play it with a stick instead of the pad. Silpheed also rocks played like that. If I had some sort of double-stick thing for the PS2, I'm sure Zone of the Enders 2 would be magnificent as well.

I found Gradius V very uncomfortable with a stick, though. Viewtiful Joe was quite difficult that way, as well.

Shooters rock when played with a joystick, generally.

I someone has a good set of US Nintendo Power Magazines, there was an article a little before the US SNES was revealed that showed several mockups of what it might look like. Really interesting.

And RyanGamer... Search the forum. Old posts carried over from the old forum. Or just stick around...stuff like this comes up all the time...

this first image shows two Famicom systems. the larger one on the right
is a prototype of the 16-bit Super Famicom. the smaller one on the
left, with the yellow cartridge, is an unreleased version of the 8-bit
Famicom. it is actually not the original version of the Famicom dispite
what the caption from the magazine says. that above picture is from
EGM Number 2 which came out in summer 1989. EGM was just becoming a
    monthly magazine at that time.

I had assumed for many years that the white Famicom in that picture was
how the Japanese Famicom looked, until I got the internet and learned
that the original Famicom was much different looking.

what that white Famicom seems to be, is something called the "Famicom
Adaptor" even though it doesn't seem to be an adaptor for the Famicom
or Super Famicom, but a self-contained Famicom that plays the 8-bit
    Nintendo games.

okay now check out these pictures from a Japanese magazine

    http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/misc/sfcproto01.jpg
    http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/misc/sfcproto02.jpg
    http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/misc/sfcproto03.jpg

and some comments about that magazine article from Chris Covell, a guy
who has this really amazing page about unreleased Japanese games

    CC:
"And below is a really amazing find! This comes from an announcement of
the Super Famicom hardware, in February 1989. The article discusses
some of the features of the new system (stereo sound, scaling, ROM
size, etc...) But the system pictures are intriguing, to say the least!
The system on the left side of the page is a redesigned Famicom, called
a "Famicom adaptor". Who knows if it connected with the SFC as an
adaptor, or if it was just a fancy name for a redesigned Famicom to
complement the SFC design. This new FC design wasn't produced.

BUT! That picture on the right side of the page shows an early design
of the SFC, as above. This time, the labels of the switches are clearly
visible: Power Switch; FAMICOM Switch, and Reset Switch! Is this the
fabled Super Famicom prototype that was backwards-compatible with
    Famicom games? It looks possible.."

personally, I really love the design of that white Famicom / Famicom
    Adaptor system.

Also, here are more pictures of several different Super Famicom
    prototypes / casings

ver. 1: same as the one in the first image at the top)

    (ver. 3)

(ver. 4?) a possible *hoax* Super Famicom proto picture
    http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/1991/SFCHoax.jpg

there are some other prototype-concept-mock up pictures of the American
Super SNES / Super Nintendo / SNES from Nintendo Power and EGM that I
have not been able to find online. If anyone has these that can also
post them, I would love to see them again.

Sorry, the pictures I posted were pretty much like the ones in the above post apart from being maybe better quality plus a few different ones. However I no longer have these images and I'm pretty sure that the ones I posted were lost when the boards moved over to the system they are running on now :(

BTW, getting back off topic, I can recommend the PSX Horipad for anyone who wants to play Street Fighter (or other D-pad/6 button intensive games) on PSX/PS2, it can probably be had for peanuts, I bought mine with a lot of other PSX hardware at a flea market for 10e.
