I remember hearing this was gold and then canceled when the publisher went bankrupt. Also it was "late" in the Xbox 1 life cycle. Has anyone heard anything about this game?

    Thank you.

I recall these two and Castlevania Curse of Darkness. I was bummed when those two never came out but CoD made up for both games, but still I would love to see either of these and donate towards a release as well. Oh well like my most sought after Dreamcast title Castlevaina I will probably never see any of them ever. High profile and cancelled games that were complete or close seldom see the light of day. Just Betas of stuff we have but then again something is better then nothing for sure. Here is hoping for any release spoken of in the topic.

Games were rarely as complete as people say. Even when developers say "Complete and ready to go" it is rarely the case if the game never comes out. None of these titles are really high profile though (and even still, high profile games are obtainable too...)

They are obtainable of course look at Geist but most just hoard them. And I thought those were some pretty high dollar productions from memory but then again that was quite a few years back.

The key is just getting a hold of the right person, at the right time, and be willing to work with whatever they have to offer, be it nothing, information, documents, or builds. With Geist Force, they didn't really realize what they were holding onto or the value of what they had. Not everyone is all that interested in prototypes, especially things they worked on that they may be indifferent too, especially since there is the possibility they have moved on from the game industry. Stuff is destroyed more often than we would care to admit.

Yep just look at Sega losing the code to Panzer Dragoon Saga. How I would love to see a remake but even they admit to destroying the data so the chances of a remake are slim to none as they would have to totally re-write the code and not enough interested parties to warrant the overhaul.

What do you do with 15 year old source code you have no way of compiling? Store it on tape backups, then when you no longer have the ability to restore it, the code is gone forever.

I'd think most games no longer have copies of source code.Think of all the studios that have closed down over the years. Sometimes one of the owners will make a copy of the code, but a lot of times it just gets wiped when the servers are trashed/sold.

The last AAA game i worked on, the uncompressed/uncompiled source code repo was more than 20 Terabytes. Perforce (the most common source code repo in the industry) doesn't really recommend doing diffs on binary files, so every time you compile your art assets, it makes a full duplicate copy. Now imagine doing 3-5 builds a day for 2 years. The uncompressed HD video alone was in the neighborhood of 36 TB, and this was all for a single game.

A 150 person development team working for 2 years produces 300 years worth of manhours in effort on a single game. I think people underestimate what it actually takes to make a modern game. In other words, you're going to need a lot of floppy discs to make a copy when your studio gets shutdown...

Ah, never heard of this game (thought you initially referred to Land of the Dead, which I kinda liked despite the negative criticism).
Looks pretty good. I hope someone got their hands on it.
