Well I officially don't give a shit about RE on Wii then. I pretty much hate the Wiimote + Nunchuck with quite a passion and well ya, it can go to hell.
I'm actually pretty interested in this since I always did think RE4's control scheme would make a good adaptation to the Wii. You can add another though to the disappointed list when it comes to Umbrella Chronicles. I was very excited by the premise when I first heard about it but I always did fear it would end up a shooter
the only (relatively) precise instrument that the Wii offers is the pointing functionality it has. The gesture recognition is far from accurate and very hard to manage for anyone who has tried the SDK (even with the newer tools)
Well, I for one will be buying this, as long as it has GC (or better) graphics, and isn't a Wii port of a PS2 (or god forbid, PC) game. I want to be able to play it in widescreen, unstretched, in 480p (the PAL version is interlaced only), and also get to do Ada's mission. Plus the game is awesome. And as far as gesture recognition goes, Wii Sports did it excellently without using the IR at all. The majority of the games that have had simple gesture-based controls have been quick ports with button presses replaced with motion sensing, so I think it is a bit much to criticise it at this point. SSX Blur had some pretty good gesture input, too, even though some reviewers said otherwise.
My experience with the pointing was poor. The device may be "accurate" but actually using it is tedious and very clunky in my opinion. Plus turning be moving the cursor to the edge of the screen and such is very annoying. Sorry but I'll stick with analog sticks thanks. ;p
How ironic. Analog sticks are by far the most 'clunky' way I have ever experienced playing an FPS. The only ones I could ever agree with were N64 ones; every other console FPS I've played has just degenerated into constant strafing because aiming is so imprecise. YMMV. Not to say that any Wii FPSs have been great so far. I have Red Steel and Call of Duty 3, and both are lacking in many respects control-wise, but I still found RSs system more enjoyable than dual analogs. /edit: the PC version of RE4 was terrible. Limited you to either keyboard or gamepad; no mouse support. And the graphics were very, very bad, with appalling lighting effects. It wasn't up to the PS2 version's quality, never mind the GCN.
Bleh! They prolly just ported the PS2 one or some crap. Probably wouldn't be terrible with a 360 pad though, but bleh!
Really horrible. What basically happened was the game was supposed to come out a year or so ago, but it was delayed with no screenshots posted. Eventually, it was released on the Korean market first with no shading effects whatsoever, lower polygon models, and just muddy looking textures (Plus, no mouse pointing). People have stated that there are files in the game that make the graphics card call shading effects, but they are not active.
The PS2 version is quite good honestly. I haven't played the GC version that much, but the PS2 really looks great, specially if you remember that porting games isn't an easy task. As for the PC version, i have seen a couple of screenshots and never looked for it again.
I have both versions of the game, the graphics in the Gamecube version are clearly superior, especially through RGB. The PS2 version has some little extras, which are enjoyable and worth having, so an "ultimate" version with Gamecube+ graphics and all the PS2 bits and pieces would be nice. For $30, it's a bargain, especially if you don't own it already. Easily one of the finest games of the last generation. It does surprise me that Microsoft/Bungie haven't done a similar thing, and re-released a tarted-up version of Halo 1 and 2 for the 360. It'd sell loads.
I do have access to the PC version actually. It sucks. A true bargain at 30$ would be the additional support of standard controls
Backwards Compatibility? Especially as the 360 upscales old games to 720p or lets you play with 4xAA.
Yeah, backwards compatibility was microsoft's answer to getting people to buy halo. Not only was it the only BC games on the hard drive out of the box, they added higher resolution and widescreen support. Plus, the new Halo 2 maps when the Xbox has been dead for some time show that they still support it for the 360.
I didn't like the PS2 RE4, I hate that controller and the graphics were kind of ugly, but it's still a good game. A Wii one would be great simply because now I have a widescreen TV and it would be cool to play an ultimate version of it. Wii controller could or couldn't be good, I dunno. I know i'd buy a pumped up version of Halo 1! Is the BC Halo 1 nicer looking? I heard 2 had some ghosting and stuff.
Well, the Wii plays the Gamecube version of RE4. Halo on 360 is the same deal. It works, sure, but they could re-release it with a few engine updates and people would buy it again. Not saying it's a great idea, but it would certainly sell. I'll be pretty irritated if the Wii version of RE4 doesn't support Gamecube pads, anyway.
Don't worry, I'd bet money that the Wii version of RE4 will have NO support for the GC controller, and not feature hardly any graphical improvements at all.
I m with MottZilla on this , no graphical improvements at all although the memory allows for at least twice the detailed textures, and the CPU some extra tricks and effects.
