BITCH THIS AIN'T A CUT SCENE PRESS A PRESS A I'm in a bit of a delemea over which system is Resident Evil 4 best played on PS2 with it's Extras or Gamecube the system the game was designed for?
GC, all the way. Be it the graphics or the lovely controller. the PS2 extras are just extras. Nothing you d miss.
*Agrees with Barc0de* PS2 one lacks good lighting, effects, visual contrast, and the real time cinematics are now grainy/pixely fmv. The PS2 one was a real disappointment.
Despite gameplay (in the form of more content; ie, levels and modes) normally taking more precedence, I have to agree that the game is best enjoyed how it was originally designed. RE4 relies heavily on its atmosphere to give it the intended effect. The extra muscle that the GCN has is able to give it all the more compared to the PS2. Gimped graphics geometry, lighting, and sound all detract from the effect that this game has. In that regard, the GCN version wins, even if it doesn't have as many extras. You're still playing the main part.. how it was intended to be portrayed visually and aurally... and I figure that's what matters most. (Oh, by the way, the PC version has just been updated with a patch that resolves the no lighting/effects problem, so check that one out if you can. The graphics geometry isn't at "PC levels," though. X3)
I'm playing the PS2 version, and yes, i gotta agree the GC has better graphics. But the PS2 holds up pretty well. Specially for a console low on RAM. I honestly don't think the gameplay have any problems on the PS2. It depends if you like the controller or not. Also the PS2 has real widescreen support and the extra modes. The sound, if i'm not mistaken, is on the same level on both versions.
I am not sure about the Widescreen option as it never concerned me. But as most people have said here, go with the Gamecube Version. I have had it since the day of release and its a wonderful game, and very simple to navigate with the GC controller. My friend has the PS2 version and we played it awhile ago........ Lets just say the graphics were noticeably worse than the GCs. It doesnt look bad, its just the Gamecube one is a ton better IMHO.
I really can't imagine playing it with the Dual-Shock II, although I really don't like them pads so some bias here. Who knows, the WIi version could be "best". h:
The Wii version also supports the Classic Controller attachment and the original GameCube pad for those who prefer traditional controls.
gamecube version until the wii versioncomes out, just make sure you get the ntsc version as it outputs in 480p unlike the crappy pal 480i version (this only applies if using component anyways)
Taucias, apparently the Wii ver also has an option for GC, classic controls. I pray rumble stays in there for the GC pad.
Definitely GameCube. The PS2 really really tones the game down and blurs everything and all the glorious detail is gone. The only reason to play the PS2 version is for the extras not in the GC version, but that will be fixed with the Wii version perhaps.
Leaving the aforementioned aspects aside, its all a matter of which console you actually have... Like if you dont own a PS2 or a GC you can get the last one for spare change, or a Wii and you'll kill two birds with one stone (in case you dont have one and actually want to own one, or course). Anyway, the PS2 version sucks donkey balls, but if you already have a PS2 the GC version is not that superior as to justify the purchase of a GC unit.
Shadowlayer hit it right on the money there: the PS2 version is still enjoyable from what I hear; it's just not the same experience, but it will suffice (especially with what it has to make up for visual/aural shortcomings). If you only have a PS2, just get the version for that system. If a Wii is in your possession or soon to be, then Wii edition should be good. etcetcetc
So? Where do I look? Nothing personal, but at times I get a little bit tired of the "I know something you don't" attitude some members seem to be having here. Anyway, everyone seems to think the PS2 version "sucks balls", well, never having played the GC version I must say I think the PS2 version looks ok on its own... I have yet to notice anything in terms of graphics artifacts, or anything.
you ll look at ebay and local shops, i thought that was self explainable. I don't have any sort of special knowledge, but I ve seen units hit low pounds in pawnshops and local gamestores. If i were you though, I d chase down an NTSC Rev 1 cube , with component output (rev 2 also has component but lacks the serial interface, which is useless anyway unless you make your own debug tool/cable)
