So anyways, I loved the Resident Evil Remake for gamecube.

But, this is my first Resident Evil experience. I have a DC at home so I play to eventually get around to play RE2, RE:CV, RE3

However, right now away at rez with just my Wii. Until Sonic and the Secret Rings comes out I need a good RE to tide me over.

I'm trying to decide between RE:0 and RE4

I'm sorta leaning toward zero because of its more related story and game-wise to the Resident evil remake.

However, RE4 has recieved better reviews...

    So what so I do?

and no :p I can't get both as I don't got the moola

Ive played both, and 4 is so much better. Theres so much replay value. you can:

    1) beat the game on normal
    2) beat the game on hard
    3) beat it on normal / hard without speaking to the merchant
    4) beat it on normal / hard without speaking to the merchant, and only use a knife (except when the game forces you to use a handgun for puzzles)
    5) fire up your action replay, and beat the game with Hunk, Wesker, Krauser, and Ada. Glitch crashes add the the games difficulty.

    im an RE4 junkie V:icon_biggV

Well it depends, b/c I have the feeling the each RE game is strongly connected to the last. So having play the first I feel I might enjoy RE0 more

Unlike say zelda, where playing the series in full really isn't neccesay for the most part to enjoy a single game to the fullest b.c although connected the timeline is seperated by large spans of time or alternate realitys (with the exception of ocarina and majora).

I have Bio Hazard 4 and let me tell you that it's the BEST Bio Hazard EVER ! Now when I complete a game I hardly ever bother to play it again anytime soon even if there are extras but with Bio Hazard 4 I'm playing the normal game a 2nd time round right after I finished it once ! After that I'm going to check out all the extra modes that were unlocked.

Bio Hazard 4 is one game you MUST experience ! It's miles better than all the others.

PErsonally, I'd say go with RE4 last.

Its a very different style of gameplay, and has been enough to stop my friends playing other Resident Evils (The usual "bad controls" and "stupid camera angles" remarks that drive me insane).

So I'd definatly say go 0 before 4, just to be safe. Also, you can pick up 2, 3 and CV on the 'cube aswell :) The DC versions are nice too though (as a fanboy, I have both :) And various other versions :/)

Just get both, they will hardly break the bank.

bio 4 is an amazing game but zero is very good too. Think of zero as a more traditional style biohazard game with lots of puzzles & stuff.

I disagree. While I think that RE4 was an ok game (they still had the stupid tank turret controls which made an Action Replay a requirement for some of us), the plot just didn't work for me. RE0 was much more enjoyable in my opinion.

RE4, no question. One of the best games made so far. I don't think its a major problem to play them out of order unless you're really obsesive about stuff like that. Yes the stories all connect in one way or another, but they're all made to be separate standalone games. I've played them out of order without a problem. The only issue is once you play RE4, as good as the other ones are, they simply can't live up to its greatness.

Get the Player's Choice GC version. It costs around $40 and comes with RE0, RE1 and RE4. Good deal.

I think he's saying that he already has RE1. I got RE4 from gamefly for around $12 (shouldn't cost much more elsewhere). and RE0 runs about $10 in classifieds/used stores around here. So you're really only looking at $20-$25. However I think the question is which one to get first. Again, I stand by 4. But if you want to kind of pick up playing where you left off with 1, then go with 0. Definately play both of them though.

to be fair to both games, they re totally different. By old-timers, RE0 is 'more' resident evilish than RE4, which is more action oriented, lacking the usual 'spook' and 'ammo limitation' factor, primarily found in the first RE (and REmake).

Having said that however, I personally find myself liking RE4 more than any other RE mainly due to the controls. I suck at controlling and aiming with a fixed camera angle. I still haven't completed REmake for that very reason!

I don't see why you can't get both of them however at a fair deal, if you look hard enough. Imo, none should be passed by in favour of the other, as they're very different , and perhaps equally deserving games, with RE4 being the more 'obvious' winner, but after finishing RE0 you won't exactly feel like you ve wasted your time either :)

I agree with Barcode, they aren't the same kind of game really. Resident Evil 0 follows the traditional Resident Evil gameplay style. However Resident Evil 4 is quite different, with alot more action put into it, alot more detailed combat. Where as in the RE1 remake your options to engage an enemy where straight, aim up, aim down from some strange camera angle, in Resident Evil 4 you have full control over your weapons and with the camera always following you it just makes that bit so much more fun.

I always liked the story behind the Resident Evil games, but the gameplay was pretty lacking with little to no replay value in my opinion. But RE4 was much much better and I can't wait for RE5 since they promised it would be similar to RE4's gameplay style.

If you want something like the RE1 remake, get RE0. But eventually you need to play RE4. =)

I prefer RE4 over RE0, which I found a bit difficult. I hate the classic style RE control and really enjoyed the changes (control, gameplay..) Capcom included in RE4.

But, will playing one ruin the other for me?
Like is the RE series better play in order?

Or would it be fine to just have played RE remake then skip right to RE 4?

Also, I'm getting the feeling that there's just an improved control scheme in RE4. But zero's is close to the remake... but, I did enjoy the remake and found although the conrol was difficult, it added to the sense of suspense in the game.

Nah playing them out of order wont ruin it for you. They are designed to be self contained games, but as you play through them you get to learn the bigger story that runs through all the games.

If you like fear then zero is indeed your game.

The leech zombies can make me sweat when i know i have just entered a room with one in as they do massive damage if they get you.

Playing RE4 might indeed make you less tolerant of the previous RE games' play style. After playing RE4, I don't really care much for RE1, 2, 3, or 0. I never did really play RE3, probably never will. Never played RE0, but I might at some point. It's just that to me the game mechanics are not fun.

Ya, like I'm kind of afraid of that

So anyways, I think I'm gonna go with RE0 , just because I enjoyed REmake so much...

    Thanks everyone

Edit: but, I'm gonna place the order on sunday :p so I guess if theres a really good reason not to go for RE0 tell me.
