What did you think of this prequel to Resident Evil? Discuss it in here please. I thought it was an interesting concept that was disappointing. The whole Rebecca-Billy story was a waste. I mean, there was no continuation there. None of this was carried over into the remake. I guess Capcom wanted to tide the fans over while they worked on other projects, but I expected more from my favourite games developers. I've heard some rumours that Rebecca Chambers is dead, but I don't believe it one bit.
RE:0 is probably my favorite Resident Evil. I loved using my head to solve the puzzles. The cutscenes were amazing, especially where Billy uses the magnum, and I like how in Resident Evil 1, you see Rebecca in the mansion(at the end of RE:0, they look over there and mention it). Some stuff was sort of odd, such as the oversized scorpion. However, the awesome visuals make up for that. Man, they were awesome. Being on top of that train was so cool.
I have to agree. While I understand that Capcom wanted to go in a different direction with RE4 (i.e. no zombies), it just lacked the feel of being an RE game. I also despise escort missions, so half the game was bothersome for me. RE0 I thought was a nice side story. No, it didn't contribute much to the overall story, but it had an engrossing plotline.
I thought RE0 added a little something anyway, at least it kept the whole zombies thing heh. They really should base a game on one of the books, Im quite fond of them
Have to agree. As a game I'd say RE4 is the best of the series but it didn't do much to advance the overall story except for some small bits. Personally I liked the idea of an Umbrella researcher and Hunk being the main characters. That was one of the bogus ideas being floated around the net for a long time.
I've yet to clear RE0, but I've really liked what I've played so far - the mechanics of switching from Billy to Rebecca to solve various puzzles really puts a new spin on the series. The only thing I could fault the game for would be sticking to the annoying first-person control scheme that has plagued the series from its onset. RE4 is the game that revived my faith in the series. I played a lot of RE3 on the Playstation, but after that lost interest in the series - mostly to the atrocious and nonintuitive controls. Resident Evil 4 made me remember what I liked about the series in the first place, and did so in a way that didn't make me throw the controller in disgust from a borked control scheme. It was after beating RE4 that I actually went out and bought the Pure Evil pack on Gamecube, and Resident Evil 2 on N64 (with the graciously fixed controls). I still get frustrated at the controls in the REmake and RE0, but there's a big difference between trying to move a jaggy mass of pixels on the PSX and trying to move the beautifully rendered characters in the Gamecube remake. The atmosphere of the mansion is a lot more palpable with the new graphics, and there are some genuinely creepy moments with the new look. Resident Evil 4 had some creepy moments, but they were more of the "I just KNOW I'm going to run into some Ganados around this corner" variety rather than the "HOLY SHIT THAT DOG JUST JUMPED OUT OF THE HEDGE AT ME!" type. And I'm totally looking forward to Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. Even if the first-person controls remain intact, it will be just too cool to battle zombies in the campus library between classes.
