So I'm looking through the new August issue of Servo: Robot Innovator magazine and I see this.

    N64, Genesis/PC, and NES/SNES/PC controllers.

The NES one is styled like the original Famicom controller but with 4 face and 2 shoulder buttons.

I'm seeing decent reviews - anyone else taken a shot with them?

The form factor looks really similar to the original, the 2.4Ghz is a really cool feature - if the analog stick and buttons perform decently I think we have new contenders! (I've hearded mixed on their other products)

The Retrobit N64 Controller I have is a heaping pile of ass. The Analog stick no thinks even in Neutral that it's always pushed left I can't expect these to be any better.

Maybe the NES and SNES ones will fare better.

Did you press that button combination while the game was running to re-center the analog stick? I forget what it is now as it's been so like, maybe it was L+R+Z?

    L R Z start.

So useful! I dont think console games have that anymore. I remember we searched the Gamecube manual high and low to find that and figured to just unplug and replug the controllers.

X+Y+Start is the combo to calibrate GC controllers, GC game manuals should have that info.

AH OK I'll try that then. Now I can get back to Mario Kart 64 and the underrated Ridge Racer 64

Ahh so awesome. thanks! Not that it was an issue once I got a wavebird - flicking the off switch was just as quick. Dual Shocks just needed the analog button flicked right?

What other consoles have a recalibrate combo?

I think Playstation has one. I've heard hold L2+R2 and rotate both analog sticks in circles for PS2. Not sure if it is true.

I like how the analog stick already seems wiggly and off center in the video :/
Company after company spends their resources in creating worse and worse controllers. I wouldn't even know one game where those funny looking autofire switches would come in handy.
Looks like they just aquired the casts from ASCII and now flesh them out. They didn't even spend the time closing the old cable hole, just put a sticker on it.

Maybe it's time to write a nice email to Hori asking them to stop making 3ds cases and finally give the N64 the love it deserves. I have no trust in any other companies endeavours when it comes to making a new and durable N64 controller.

rapid start is useful for Bomberman 64 to unlock bonus stages.

uh, besides that I'm not sure. I haven't used a turbo controller since the NES days. Maybe for a semiautomatic gun in goldeneye

I found one of these at Goodwill without and the thumbstick was snapped off. I considered buying it for $1, and then just taking a broken 64 controller apart and getting a new thumbstick, but I said fuck it and bailed.

I think it's because with the N64 the controller would calibrate every time the console was switched on, I'm not sure if any other system did that.

Rumble kills wireless controllers, that's probably why, or they couldn't find a decent place to put the motors (if it's from the same cast as a regular controller, the inside isn't particularly friendly to a motor.

But, given that it takes 3 AAA batteries, it's probably the battery life issue.

That's how I got my wavebird, though it was $10.

I think I might get one of the Genesis ones, if only to have a decent d-pad controller for PC.

For consoles that have it built in, it's not as noticeable, but for ones replacing wired ones, it can halve the time. Like the MadCatz controllers for the Xbox and PS2

I gotta say I've used their wireless SNES controllers and while it worked decently the lag was too much to deal with for some games. Not all of them matter...like if I'm playing an RPG or something. Playing Super Mario World on the other hand or Mega Man X I found it very frustrating. It'll be interesting to see if they fixed this in their newer wireless controllers, though sadly I doubt it.
