Could a single first party game (Mario Kart 8) be the saviour of the ailing Wii U console? I hope the Big N have more plans install and get the sales momentum of the Wii U going. So that third parties publishers will be coming back to this platform.

To be honest, until now I only got 5 titles for the Wii U and the rest doesn't seems to appeal.

E3 should also give the Wii U a boost. Nintendo promises big things, and now they FINALLY have a nice wave to ride in on. MK8 has proven to be the killer app they needed to start making the Wii U more pervasive.

It's the same with EVERY Nintendo Console since the N64. I don't know why people are so surprised. Always there a major drought of anything worth while then once every blue moon a good game is released. Just look back at Nintendo consoles since the N64 and you'll see the same pattern year on year, N64, Game Cube, Wii and now the Wii U. Nothing changes in the land of Nintendo. IMO their last great console was the Super Famicom. I don't include handhelds as consoles as they belong in their own category.

I haven't booted my WiiU up to seriously play a game since I returned Pikmin 3 to GameFly after being unable to finish the last boss.

    Hint: that was months ago.

Zelda is the only thing that will get me to buy one, that and F-Zero if there ever is one.

I wish they'd release a new Wave Race. The last game in that series was Blue Storm for the Gamecube, and there hasn't been another one since. There are only 3 Wave Race games in total - Wave Race (GB), Wave Race 64, and Wave Race: Blue Storm. It probably doesn't have as much of a following as Mario or Zelda.

i'd take the girl over the shirt myself but each to their own ;)

I quite like the Wii U, dont get me wrong the system menu is embarrassingly shit, slow and clunky but once you get into a game they are great!

Seconded. I would LOVE to see another Wave Race as well. I adored WR64 when it came out. Another 1080 would also be appreciated.

As long as we're going over wish lists, I'd like to see a real sequel to Star Fox 64 (Adventures was a different game with Fox shoved in and Assault still had on foot missions).

But I have to agree with Yakumo, Nintendo consoles have lived and died based on first party titles, more so than any other console maker (Microsoft leans on them a bit, and a lot of Sony's franchises have been disposed of already). I think one of the biggest reasons the Gamecube wasn't as successful was because the Mario and Zelda games for the system were less traditional than before or after.

I somewhat disagree with this. The Gamecube actually had quite a few really good third-party games, as well as games that were developed in cooperation between Nintendo and third-parties. You're right that those games probably didn't drive the system, but they existed, and they were really good. A few examples: Resident Evil, Super Monkey Ball, MGS: Twin Snakes (developed by Silicon Knights and Konami, distributed by Nintendo), F-Zero GX (a collaboration between Nintendo and AV), and others.

This happened with Super Mario 3D World. It will spike then go back to being dead.

I have to disagree, since the GC had Wind Waker, Pikmin 1 & 2, F-Zero GX, Baten Kaitos, RE4 and Viewtiful Joe as exclusives for a short time, Eternal Darkness, the first console Fire Emblem in several years, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros. Melee, Rogue Squadron II, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door etc. Great games that have aged far better than N64 ones and will continue to do so. Too bad in the Wii era Nintendo went full retard and abandoned most of the actually good new franchises in favor of minigame crap and motion controls that never worked very well.

I'mma go ahead and add Mario Kart: Double Dash, Super Mario Sunshine (bite me this game ruled), Battalion Wars, Kirby Air Ride, Chibi Robo and Luigi's Mansion to that list, alongside the fact that the Gamecube had what most Zelda fans would consider to be the far superior and "correct" version of Twilight Princess (take that as you will). Oh, and the controller kicked all kinds of ass, especially with all those controller colors (dat Emerald hnnnnggh).

But on the main topic, I really hope that Mayro Kratt 8 and Smash Bros 4 will keep on moving WiiUs (especially since a lot of people I've talked to are now wanting a WiiU and Sm4sh thanks to the Gamecube adapter).

I agree that this is an established pattern now. It wasn't since the SNES that I considered any Nintendo console to not be 90% for Nintendo developed games. Not to say that on those consoles that there weren't any great non-Nintendo games, but mainly that is what you have. So the pattern goes, you buy your Playstation or Xbox for most of your non-Nintendo games. You buy your Nintendo consoles almost exclusively for Nintendo franchises and maybe the odd exclusive 3rd party title.

I yearn for people to let go of the mindset that they are buying Nintendo consoles only to play first party games. People who recognize the quality third party games (not just the exclusives) are a rare breed. The unsatisfactory sales for those make most devs desert Nintendo's hardware, and I doubt Nintendo's IPs will keep it alive forever.
