Some of you who were subscribed to my YouTube channel will now notice it's completely blank, I removed all videos. I just lost the energy (which of some is money related, and real life circumstances), to continue with collecting for the Xbox and researching it. So it became a real struggle for me to come across enthusiastic and motivated with my voice in them. Not that I was ever doing it for the "fame" either, but it's always nice to get feedback.

I did get some great positive vibes from it, and had a few decent followers who would comment or rate every time. Still it wasn't enough to keep me going. With the forums being down for the time it was, I had some time to review how important it would be to keep going with it. Most likely, with all hobbies, we come and go to/from them. This maybe one of those situations... Not too sure, but most likely.

The market for the Xbox is rather stale, speaking to another collector who many know from here, we had this conversation not so long ago, I seem to worry about this a lot. This issue might be spread to other platforms, and this can affect the passion too.
It was obvious that I really enjoyed the system, and the interesting information which hasn't come to light if it wasn't for myself and other collectors I'd talk to.

So this is where the money factor comes into play, I can't compete to those who claim "not to be rich" but can spend grands at a time for hardware. I'm not even talking about one offs or really rare pieces, majority of the time they're "made-to-be-rare" systems like the competition paint jobs, many of which are not official. This is what somewhat push me out of the market, not only that but it really irritates me that no information, or better images get shared, the rare chance of the orange Xbox being talked about was a shock to me actually.

Now for the passion side of things, I don't know where to turn. I'm one of those gamers who stick to one certain game and play the absolute fuck out of it, till the point no one else could really care about it, or never want to talk about it. The 3DS has been rather attractive to me, it has a very active homebrew scene (which is what got me into Xbox to begin with), and limited editions come flying out like confetti. I never was into retro gaming or collecting for the sake of resale value, unlike many who take advantage of this (and no, relax, I'm not speaking about the rest of us here).

So for any of you who maybe going through the same time as me, what's a good way to stay interested in this? To me it's the obscure part of gaming. So that's why finding a prototype or beta of Vigilante 8 series will most likely revive my passion. As of right now? Well I'm just keeping busy with titles that always entertain me.

From what I have seen from other collectors, sometimes you have to just back away from collecting for some time. It's easy to get burned on collecting in this hobby for those reasons you said. From what I understood you will still be playing videogames, just not Xbox exclusively. This should be a good thing, you will discover new games and the passion for the Xbox should come back one day.

Just do whatever makes you happy. I have gone through many phases of collecting. I once had quite the arcade setup. At this point there is only so much I can really buy easily for the Xbox, so I've started to expand into other stuff. I'll come back around eventually I'm sure, but never feel obligated.

I understand that you lost interest. This happens to a lot of people for various reasons.
But just one question. Why did you remove the videos?
Your videos were high quality and great. You don't have to make new videos if you don't want to, but why delete the old videos?
I hope you regain your interest and make videos again :)

Absolutely, I wouldn't back away from gaming at all, this forum mainly as I like discussing many topics with you guys. There's some systems I've never touched like PC-Engine and so on. So I may get a system and start playing them.

Of course mate, expanding isn't a bad thing and I think there's a lot I've been missing due to being so stuck into the Xbox. It was an interesting road though, exchanging information about it together and the friendships I've made through it are good. It's just a good sense that I'm not alone in feeling this way about it.

I removed them for the very simple reason of maintenance, I get comments asking questions which I honestly can't remember answers to. A lot to do with the softmod video. Many of the LE videos had outdated information, and since I cannot remake them any more I removed them to save the future corrections. Probably the future of my channel is going to be a bit dim, I don't see much potential in YT any more. It just seems a tool for people to knock you really.
However thanks for the kind words, it does mean a lot. Good to know some enjoyed them.

Next step would be to shutdown the archive.

Rare and obscure sounds like a good way to go. I like the never-touched system idea, too. That's something I've been thinking about doing myself. Maybe you'd pick up a system and be so enthralled with it you'd start collecting for it. There's always another game, system, etc. out there it seems.

I hope everything gets better, though. Best wishes on getting your drive back.

x2 Hex you are a pretty good narrator and have a great voice. I can see why you dropped some of the high maintenance videos such as the softmod one. But pleaseeeeee can you give us back some of the less mainentancy ones. :)

I would recommend to leave the videos up and in the description with capital letters say that YOU ARE ON A HIATUS FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME AND THAT YOU WON'T REPLY TO COMMENTS, SO THERE WON'T BE ANY SUPPORT.
At least that's what I would do.

I liked a lot of the unboxing xbox videos, and the LT01 Xbox.

Hmm, they felt a bit half assed for me. Some liked them, but I always wanted to redo them. Ones like the Smoke Black unboxing was incorrect since it didn't have the HDAV Kit. I highly doubt I'll jump back into the videos though, my moral is pretty low.

I feel I had a similar experience starting last year. I had amassed quite the collection of development units from multiple companies. Which as it turned out not as enjoyable for me as I didn't take the time to understand each systems functions. Having all these units sitting around made me angry considering they were never used... So I ultimately ended up getting rid of almost everything and only keeping two collections (Xbox/360).

After this I decided to only look for prototype accessories for my favorite systems to collect proto/dev items for. Something that I found new enjoyment in.

Something I also do on occasion is document Halo builds and I will admit I from time time will get completely burnt out looking for new things to add to my list, but as soon as something new shows up I immediately have a huge smile on my face and document the crap outa it. So this is similar to what you are saying about Vigilante 8.

So to answer your question I would say do whatever will bring new enjoyment to your collecting. If that be in the prototype range of things go for it or in the retail.

Hopefully this is what you were looking for.

Sometimes I find , like anything , you just need to step back and take a break ....

I have found myself lately being very 'unmotivated' when it comes to my collecting ... I just don't have the drive to acquire anything new...

but I have had this in the past also .... it comes and goes.. something always sparks my interest eventually ...

hard to explain .. all I can say, is keep doing your thing, whatever it may be ..

and was wondering what was going on with your videos Hex! I was a subscriber !

    all the best

I am in a similar situation when it comes to actually collecting for the original Xbox right now. Everything has become more expensive. I haven't bought anything new in several months now except for 3 Xbox magazines. I still haven't stopped searching for items though. I just hope I get lucky with something. Really I just been using this time as a break to save money and simply buy other things like new games and anime.

I agree with others that you should keep your videos up. I think you did a great job with them and the quality was decent. :)

This is exactly what drives people away, prices are just stupid and ridiculous to the point where you could buy a car for the same price and it has a use. The last Xbox item I bought was a promo DVD from Japan which has Conker trailers on it, still remains unopened though.

The term of good deals happens really rarely now, I before I'd at least get one every few months but now It's close to being very unlikely to never. Prices even increased in Japan, probably due to everyone know about proxy services now. So my chance for that Pure White won't happen, and I guess somewhat now I'd be happier with the money to buy new things and other consoles.

Thanks for kind words about my videos though, I know some enjoyed them but no one was liking any transitions from time to time. I think my target audience was a generation ahead of myself. So anything from the 90s was downvoted. I don't have much energy to even leave the videos up, I was getting 2-3 subscribers every day which is good for a minor YouTuber like myself. Due to my real life circumstances (family member battling cancer), it's very hard to stay motivated. I can barely sleep as it is now.

Whenever I get out of the rut, which could be years to come I might start again, but right now I'm having fun playing GTA:Online as it passes the time quite well. Whatever the future holds..

I can relate to how you are feeling, HEX1GON. The reason I even came back into the gaming/collecting hobby a couple years back was when the Resident Evil 2 beta, 1.5 40% version, was leaked. It was one of those "holy shit!" moments where I thought, wow, this is something I want to be a part of again. But the adrenaline rush from that day has come and gone for the most part. Luckily because of my relatively young age I still have many retro consoles to fully come to appreciate first hand. Like for instance I just got a chipped Sega Saturn recently. Suddenly, a whole slew of wonderful games I had only read about before, and some not at all, are at my fingertips. That is a great feeling. I also aspire to make insightful yt videos of some of the more rare and obscure/unreleased gems some day. Hopefully you will get your Vigilante 8 beta to light your spark again. This is a really great hobby all things considered, but it can have a lot of down time with little happening that's for sure. Let alone monetary issues that you mention, haha. That's another whole can o' worms too.
