I'm a new guy who thought, if it hasn't been posted, that you might be interested.......Nintendo Revolution http://www.comcast.net/games/invasion/index.jsp?fn=/2005/04/25/607437.html
Im assuming its holograms. Although as far as I know holographic tech is no where near refined or cheap enough to implement in something like a home console.
theres been a lot of 3d stereoscopic videogames....nes, genesis, super nintendo, and even the playstation had some i remember sega came out with some hologram time travel arcade game. assuming this is true they are probably going to use mirrors and a transparent screen or some combination of mirrors transparent screen and glasses...either way you would be limited to what ever display nintendo provided...no way to hook it up to your t.v. and if nintendo has to provide the display along with the console...sounds like it would have to cost a lot of $$ in order for them to make a profit.
Sounds fucking dodgy ! This is Nintendo's problem. they are hyping this up far too much. In the end they're just going to bugger up their own company. You see, if this Revolution is the super hyped killer machine that nobody has ever thought of or seen before then it's going to cost an arm and a leg (3DO anyone?) On the other hand it may just be the same shite that we have now with some cheap arse gimmick which isn't going to please the people who were looking forward to something truly revolutionary which is most of us. Sony got away with bull shits because their PS2 just did everything we'd seen before. they only bull shitted about how powerful it was. Yakumo PS: I haven't seen the link thanks to the stupid blocker here in work
I think the revolution is going to kill nintendo for good..why the hell do they not realize that being innovative is good but that you need to get with the program if you want to sell your stuff. I don't see games developers going "Oh yessss this is what we need for our games" over this.
Are they talking about stereoscopic graphics through some proprietary display, or shit with 3D glasses? Going the proprietary display will make things too expensive, though technology's probably evolved enough to make this actually look remotely good, and not like the Virtual Boy - hopefully it won't induce migranes either...
Personally i hope nintendo keep doing things their way. A 3d console sounds amazing (if the rumor is true). All thats happening now with the new generations is just the graphics seem to get slightly better, how many more generations will it take before graphics have gone as far as they can, then what? I can't imagine been happy on just generic racing & fighting games with photorealistic graphics. I love games that stand out and are weird or quirky. Iv'e been playing games for over 25 years & thats a LOT of games and im fully ready for a revolution.
Never ever had problems playing the VB......and IMHO I think it was one of the most innovative machines made....really strtching the barriers........mine still get regular use
Don't be blaming your bad eyesight on your age then IMO though ... they could do a funky projector with the 3D graphics like you get with those goggles but project another layer of light as the filter, so you don't have to wear sod all and you still get the hologram effect.
Anything thats not more of the same is apparently shit these days. Its a shame people are so short sighted and unimaginative.
The idea of having to wear glasses or something just sounds shit. I already wear glasses and having to wear another pair over them is just gonna be annoying. Also how many of you really think developers are going to be jumping up and down to make games for this kind of system... We have done the whole arcade VR thing and it dint take off for a reason.
Good point. We are really starting to see the limits of standard-definition TV now, but in all honesty the 525 and 625 line systems are at least 50 years old now! OK, there's HDTV, but I can't see that becoming the defacto standard for another 5-10 years at least - most normal people don't buy a new TV until their old one breaks or goes really shitty, and most people now are still buying SDTVs. And even then, 1080i's only about twice the resolution of the old systems - and it's still only 2D!
