The Titler's PPU pallet (RC2C05-99) is the same as the Playchoice's (RP2C03B/RC2C03B)

Are you sure? Wikipedia (I know I know) says its compatible with the RP2A03, which is the one used in the NES.

It was also supposed to play NES games, unlike the playchoice 10

Are you talking about this "In order to create to S-video output via Nintendo's RP2A03 PPU, an RGB-output-compatible "RC2C05-99" chip was added." from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famicom_Titler?

The RP2A03 is the CPU in all famicoms/NES and also the playchoice.

Chris Covell, who owns and RGB modded one, mentions the different color pallet on his RGB site : "The Famicom Titler's composite is made differently, since it is encoded from RGB originally. Thus, it is of very high quality. Some people don't like the colours the RGB PPU generates, since they're not exactly the same, especially for browns, dark greens, etc. But I think the increase in picture sharpness more than makes up for it."

yes, I got them mixed up :) (RP2A03 vs RP2C02/7)

Considering the tiler is supposed to play nes games - I would be annoyed at the compatibility issues. Saying that, Sega did similar things with the Model 3 Genesis - so its not unheard of or anything.

So we are back to people patching the games to be more realistic. I think it would be worth doing - if the RGB PPU was more accessible/cheaper.

If someone were to make a PPU clone with the pallet fixed I'd buy 10 in a heartbeat. Also get a few AV Famicoms since they were better than a NES.

Well, there's a guy who is working on it. You probably have heard about the "universal PPU" project haven't you?
    Im following his progress closely.
    http://universalppu.com/

Recently I have also RGB-Modded an AV famicom with the Same f-labo kit used by OP. Its pretty cool. I was thinking of making a thread about it. I took some pictures during the process and made some translation work on the kit instructions.

Sure there are palette issues with the playchoice ppu but i mostly find the palette too saturated and colorful. I just turn down the color on my TV and its pretty nice. Most importantly, NO MORE DAMN DOT CRAWL SHIMMERING CRAP!!

^ I hope this guy actually gets somewhere. I've heard of several projects for replacement parts being created only for them to slowly die off. Dreamcast GD-ROM emulator is one good example...

    PSIO???
That's Haunted360 leading a team! I have a PSOne now so maybe this thing will be out soon and I can go get torrents of PSX .ISO images.

As for this clone PPU, my major concern is if it will have the classic pallet color problems the Player's Choice 10 PPU has. My planned uses for this thing will be on screens with no color depth adjustment. (PSOne screen...)

There's also another project that popped up on NESDev, this time about how to get RGB or VGA out of the standard composite PPU: http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9561

So far it just exists on an FPGA dev board but he plans to design a PCB for the project.
