It looks like Ridge Racer...without all that much in the way of improvements. Namco needs to step it up in a good way, and there hasnt been any real indications that they will.
Why does everything have to be realistic? I think there is a place for arcade racers still, and I'm looking forward to this one. Not much was broken in the first place. Ridge Racers got good reviews so it will be interesting to see how this one turns out. I just hope they steer clear of some of the crazy RR6 cars. Also, if anything, Project Gotham is like a western Ridge Racer!
Arcade racers are fine. In the arcades. Ridge Racers got good reviews because it was launched in the middle of absolutely crappy games. You cant just make an "arcade racer", throw in a few tracks and unlockables and call it something thats worth 60 bucks, it just isnt like that anymore. You need something more to it. And Ridge Racer just hasnt adapted to a changing field.
I looks cool and all, but it reminds of back when they would show these amazing screenshots for PS2 and then the actual system comes out and we end up with nothing that looks that good. Of course if it plays like R4 then I will weep as I can't afford a PS3 until they all break down and I buy or get a broken one and fix it and keep it lol.
The whole point of Ridge Racer is time trial. Once you learn the track the fun is beating your times, true arcade style. At least that has always been the appeal to me
I expect the best of this game, however with better and better graphics, poor gameplay is going to stand out more and more. Sort of like a beautiful woman with fucked up teeth.
Im not expectign realistic graphics, but it only seems slightly differnt from 6. Of course I didnt think ridge racer 6 was that bad,it sure as hell was long. But to be honest the serise hasnt been that great since part 4. Thouh i did enjoy the psp one for awhile.
The gameplay must evolve (take a look at Burnout series). Or at least move back to the RR Type 4 formula. Don't get me wrong, i like RR5, but the gameplay is too simplistic. Never played Ridge Racers or RR6, so i can't comment on those.
I think it looks good. It's not very impressive graphically, but it still looks like Ridge Racer and looks better than RR6. As far as gameplay goes, I've always played Ridge Racer BECAUSE it was arcadey. Crazy drifts for the win!
