So a (few?) media conglomerates were able to convince the US government to arrest a German New Zealand resident operating a theoretically legitimate business out of Hong Kong. Not a good sign of things to come :/ I'm glad I didn't buy a lifetime account.
I think there is more to this than the media is saying. http://gizmodo.com/5877715/all-the-insane-loot-seized-from-megauploads-crazy-owners anyways this was the most polite thing I could write up on the matter http://retrocadefantasia.blogspot.com/2012/01/revs-guide-to-file-shareing-survival.html
So yeah I think the website is only PART of why this is happening. Apparently the surviving Megaupload employees are relaunching the site under a new domain name.
Wasn't it? I'd think there's thousands of better ways to share stuff illegally. I'd never download anything from such sites if I didn't know the uploader personally, or if he had a good rep on some internet forum I frequented.
I could see SOPA and PIPA slowly plunge the internet into the dark ages. I just love how the entertainment industry has this huge grasp on the government.
You can't stop that animalistic urge to get free stuff with no effort. People will sooner rather than later find a replacement. MU was just one puny droplet. Illegal content online has the potential to spread so vastly there becomes a point where all trace of its original pirate vanishes.
LOL They're not dead so it seems.... When are the FEDS GONNA LEARN? All this was unproductive!!! http://109.236.83.66/ no domain yet...
