The former Formula 1 doctor Sid Watkins has passed away aged 84.

From 1978, Sid played an invaluable part in making Formula 1 safer with countless improvements, including the addition of a dedicated medical centre trackside, a helicopter pad for air ambulance, and the medical car on track, and saved the lives of several drivers.

RIP Sid. Thanks for your contribution to making Formula 1, and indeed motor racing in general, a much safer sport.

One of the most memorable parts in the great Senna documentary has to be Sid Watkins telling him to retire the day before the San Marino GP so they could go fishing :moody: Yeah, Watkins was definitely a great guy and one of the most important figures in the last three or so decades of motorsport safety.

He did a lot of work at my 'local' race track, Watkins Glen, so it is a sad day indeed.
