Ripping Subtitles from a DVD and adding them to a BluRay?

All this talk of VHS fansubs kinda makes me glad that I started with digisubs

 

They have what? Made a fan release with English subtitles? As far as I know, there's no official English Blu-ray release. I'm referring to the collection of 3 anime shorts, if that wasn't already clear.

 

One thing to be aware of is that often times the US get different masters then what the Japanese are using. The main thing I've had come up is that they will delete/add extra frames at chapter points. (for me it's usually the half way point of the episode). What will happen is you'll sync the beginning of the subs (in my case audio and subs) and it will be right on until the first chapter break. Then it gets farther and farther off until the end. I used Sony Vegas to sync each piece and to figure out how many pieces would need to be synced. With sony vegas you can import the video and both audio tracks. Usually what I did was synced the audio tracks using a common sound effect. (something short works best) Then lined them up. I then take the offset sony vegas gives me and apply it to the audio/subs accordingly. I used vobsubs to work on the subs originally. As far as actually adding the subs back into the menu I'm not sure how that's done. I think usually those subs are only selectable from the remote. When I was working on something similar I originally intended to author a new blu ray with brand new menus.
