My cuz and I have been working for a few weeks on a mass unreleased game list. It's really rough around the edges and in no way finished, but maybe a few people around here can take a peek and see if we missed anything

You know, if you're going to create a respectable site you might not want to directly steal text from other sites.

Segagaga Domain isn't mine, but it does belong to a fellow Assembler member. And even if it didn't, it's pretty shitty to directly copy text, let alone copy text with no attribution.

The proper (and honest) way to do things would be to write a summary in your own words and credit the original source with a link. If you want to use the original text, you should probably contact the original source and ask for permission, along with including credit.

As it is, you're not creating a site, you're just stealing from others.

I'm collecting information. If someone has a copyright on that information, then I'll be more then happy to remove it. Until then it's public, and publicly available. I don't have to ask anyone's permission. Sorry to be a bit curt, but I'm BEYOND tired of people shoving THEIR ethics down my throat.

It doesn't have anything to do with ethics or morality.

Anything published under the laws of your country is automatically under copyright upon first publication. Unintentional infringement has penalties that start at $750/instance. Intentional infringement (which you've just established) has much greater penalties.

And with google these days it's really easy to find when someone copies information directly. A site that claims to be a "research" site but is simply plagurized from others is laughable.

Why do you think watermarks came about in the first place? Because glory hounds that couldn't be arsed to respect copyright and do proper research simply stole other people's work and claimed it as their own.

Needless to say, if that's the attitude you're going to take, I don't think you're going to get much help from Assembler members with your project.

lulzsuit. As for gloryhounds, that EXACTLY what watermarking is. So go preach in another topic and quit stinking up mine. Also, I put COPYRIGHT SEGAGA at the top of the page just to appease you.

Not only to appease hl718 but me I hope. Segagaga Domain is my site and has taken many years and work to become as big as it is. I take pride in the site that I've put together 99% by myself. If you want to use anything from my site then please ask first. It has nothing to do with ethics, it's common courtesy and as pointed out can save you a lot of trouble if the original owner decides to take action.

http://www.unseen64.net/ is a fantastic site that covers all unreleased games and early beta versions. They also use images and text from other sites but ALWAYS give credit and link to the original source. In fact, I've even thrown a few exclusives their way due to the great work they do.

Yeah, if you look around the site that's usually what we do. The gentlemen above managed to catch one of the few times we didn't quote and source it. It was a rush job, and didn't like his response. I hate rude, nasty people. (See: windowskiller above) But thank you for being a little more balanced and forgiving then the rest. I'll make the entry a little less sarsatic in a bit ;)

Funny thats not what it sounded like only 2 days ago. Not to mention the comment about the watermark that stops people from claming the video as their own that you had to comment on. Sounded like its the reason you dint include the video in your entry.

I have been working on my own similar project for a while now, but my stance on watermarking and the "borrowing" of copyrighted material is nothing like that of DevHackr. Yes, the majority of screenshots and footage I'm referencing have come from outside contributions, but in some cases I must admit to what could be described as blatant theft. However, until the end product goes public I will do my absolute best to convince the original copyright holders for permission, and where I cannot achieve this I will strive to replace the offending material or completely remove it when there is no alternative available - not after the fact when it's already in circulation!

Due to the nature of my work, it would be unsightly to have logos appearing frequently, though I've not yet run into many problems obtaining "clean" files because I'm prepared to list sources where possible (apart from when non-disclosure agreements prevent this). On the other hand, it is my belief that associates of Sonic Cult/X-Cult have a policy of being anti-watermark for all the wrong reasons, and from what I can tell the forum member currently being discussed has connections with that domain and therefore should be regarded as having the same stance.

Hopefully if I can build trust within the community instead of going behind its collective back I too will be able to earn the right to exclusives from the likes of Yakumo, to name just one key example, while others are still attracting the wrong kind of attention for their standalone efforts in raising awareness of unreleased software? I'd rather make friendships through collaboration as opposed to making enemies through stealing, even though for the moment I'm having to use placeholder material until I can get clearance since this process is scheduled to happen much later into production. Besides, it helps that I don't lift entire articles word-for-word, instead writing my own pieces with the only directly copied elements being quotes or where this route is absolutely unavoidable...

Directly copying off Yakumo's site was wrong, I agree. But I agree with cult's opinion on watermarks. Considering that I find it retarded that Segaga Domain(and lets not forget the sega logos and the name Segaga are "stolen" from Sega already) puts watermarks on anything. If you want to show respect yourself Yakumo, get the freaking watermarks off the pics and videos of stuff you didn't even make. There's no need to be a glory hog as if it's exclusive just because have it in your posession.

Cult needs to learn manners on what they steal. Copying text directly is unfair and lazy. That actually requires work to type out stuff. But to get talked back to by someone whos no better at trying to claim something as their own....pfft. I got an idea Yakumo, why don't you try selling more fake protos of that Clockwork Knight Penguin Wars, eh? Oh wait, you already have, for 150 pounds to someone that was unsuspecting, and tried to appear honest by pretending you never knew the game was dumped and then continue to make contradicting arguments against all that crap that happened a couple years ago. Yes, I know all about that. Delete this post why don't you :)

I swear when it comes to information on games some people are just dicks.

OK, first of all don't comment when you have no idea what you are talking about.

The NFL video was not made by me but by another who was very generous in letting my site, Segagaga Domain have the exclusive showing of. The watermark put on by the original maker of the video was to stop thieving shits claiming that they owned the original disc.

Now, as for you comment about the watermarks on all my other videos well that's just nonsense. I spend hours upon hours making them. They are MY videos. I Made them! I didn't program the games but I did make the videos. IGN don't program the games but they watermark their videos for exclusivity reasons. Same here. Why should I do all the work making videos just so some thieving shit can use them on their site without putting in any effort. Understand?

Oh and as for watermarks on boxsets well you can thank all the arseholes in this world who use pictures from sites like mine for scamming at places such as EBay and forums. That's why any very expensive game scan on my site is watermarked. If you have a problem with that then go and moan to someone who cares because I sure as hell don't. If I took someone elses picture then watermarked it as my own then yes, you can complain about that and I would care but as for watermarking photos that I took, well they are my photos and I shall do what ever I want with them. Just like ASSEMbler and many other people do with their pictures on this site.

whatever. If someone comes to me asking to buy the game then I'm not going to say no am I. I wasn't selling it, I was asked to sell it. It's not my problem if someone doesn't check the facts before buying. That's the buyers responsibility.

Well, I like the idea, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

I appreciate that it can be a long, laborious take making a site such as this. That's no excuse for plagiarism, though. If you're going to copy text, CLEARLY show that it is not your own words and cite the reference. Better still, read the text and come up with your own. That's how you make a site that's truly unique, not just a collection of information that can be found elsewhere.

    Anyway, to your question....

I think it is fair to say that noone here knows everything about every single unreleased game on every format. However, there are people who know a lot about unreleased games on ONE format. As such, you'll likely get your best responses from people per format. However, your site doesn't have a list by format option, nor does the "list all" option work, so you are making it very difficult for people to help you. I'd be happy to take a look through if you had the option to sort by console, but I'm not going to sit clicking through every letter of the alphabet then hitting back.

I think you also need to define what platforms you're covering. Is this just consoles? Home micros? Arcade machines? Only released platforms? Games that were due to come out on one media but were released on another (e.g. due on cart but released for CD add-on instead)? It would be helpful to state on the site whether it is just for games consoles, or video games in general.

If you're covering unreleased platforms, you don't have mention of the Konix Multisystem games (not that there's much info!).

If you're covering home micros, the titles that spring to mind immediately would be MegaTree and Miner Willy Meets the Taxman for ZX Spectrum.

Take a look at Atari Jaguar unreleased games. There are some good sites out there that cover these, and there are many you're missing. I'm very surprised you don't have Space War 2000. There's Zone Hunter for the unreleased VR helmet. Oh, and talking of virtual things, Virtual VCS, the 2600 emulator.

I can see you're missing some Saturn games, too. That's just looking at two formats, so I'm sure there are more.

The main problem you'll face (and take this as constructive criticism) is that there are too many sites out there already that do a good job of listing known unreleased games, although each of them will focus on a console or a game series. If you want to 'compete' then you'll need to put in a lot of work. Whilst it's fine to have placeholders for the games as you're getting up and running, a site that is full of blank pages with no information still in a month or so won't cut the mustard.

As long as you're prepared to put the work in and do some research of your own instead of copying pre-existing text, then this could be quite a nice site.

I can't see Castlevania: Resurrection listed for Sega Dreamcast.

There's a certain Saturn game missing that I'm not going to mention by its title for once...

Which is the exact reason I find the

argument a off putting. If someone doesn't do their homework, it's their own damn fault for falling for it. However, there's nothing I can personally do about it, all I did was mention the incredible size of the watermark. I'm not sure what the rest of the Cult's opinions are reguarding anti-watermarking, but for me it's obstructive. It covers part of something. Now football games are quite possibly the least exciting thing in the world, however there could be some type of information behind it.

Say for an example (And I'm completely pulling this out of my ass, but stick with me) there was a sponsor for the game. Let's just pretend it's Gatorade or Nike. Now let's say that the only time it was visible was for about 0.8 seconds and directly under that watermark.

Just a minor make believe but totally plausible. Also, I don't know about anyone here, but I don't think I'll be doing this 40 years from now. I doubt assemblergames.com will be a valid domain name, same with segagaga and x-cult. Hell, we don't even know if domain names will exist then. What of the physical copy? Might not exist either. In the end, a hundred years from now when we're all most likely gone, all the evidence of the game will be an ooooold video with a large logo smeared across it.

The view I have is that it's a historical piece of media, and had I had the choice, I would have just released it publicly, without need for credit. -BUT THAT'S ME-

I'm not saying you should be like me or follow my POV, but I won't be bullied into not stating my opinion. If it's not welcome, tough shit. If I need to be censored, I'm sure the mods can easily ban me. Won't make one iota of difference because I share that opinion with other people. One of us goes, another replaces us. In the grand scheme of things, none of us are that important.

I just wish this was something people could discuss without feeling threatened by alternative points of view.
