E-Swat should have been the name. At least then the suit would make a little sense. Seriously though, with CG the way it is and the Iron Man flicks, I don't know how a big clunky Robocop would work either.
clunky to give the armoured feel so he could take damage and keep on coming and get the crap beat out of him etc. he was given the taurus as he was meant to function as and with a regular cop as a replacement. but anyway i'll reserve judgment on the movie till its complete and i've seen it just hope they include the Spinning gun thing he does in the original movie
I loved how Robocop was a big lumbering machine, that he moved fairly slowly with inhuman movements. It gave him a vunerability because the bad guys could generally get around faster than he could, and just made it all more believeable. Looking at the comparatively skin tight suit leaked for the new one, I can imagine he will be running around, jumping over cars, moving really fast with the typical shakey fast cutting camera work usually employed in action films now. Thats what the suit suggests, and its not really what Robocop was about. I don't think is unfair to have a negative opinion on it, most film remakes are made with cynical motivations anyway and having little to offer over the creative originals. Its a difficult thing to do a remake I'm sure, as it has to be different enough to stand up on its own right, yet still justify having the same name as the original and getting all the people who remeber it to pay up and watch. The only one that come to mind that I enjoyed is The Italian Job, as it was so different, had its own ideas/style, and played more like a highly belated sequel than a remake. Basically they didn't try and fit in famous original scenes like "your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" just for the sake of having it even if it wasn't appropriate - thats what most remakes do though. I think what people want is not a remake that is intended as a direct replacement for the original (featuring all the same major scenes), but one that can be creative in its own way and sit alongside the original as a interesting alternative. Basically if you could watch both original and remake back to back and not get bored feeling you've already seen enough of it, then its well done.
Well I generally do not look remakes favorably, mostly because many of them aren't good at all. Since retrospectives/sequels/etc are kinda trend now, I wish they could make a Robocop vs Terminator instead of this. I loved the game and the concept back as a kid.
Exactly, much like a 6000 SUX, RoboCop was big and inefficient. The whole point was that he was even though he was hyped as being the future as law enforcement, he was in fact pretty crappy and his methods were needlessly brutal, although since this is pretty subtle, a lot of people (like some guy at Cracked.com, surprise surprise) seem to miss the point. The subtle, dry satire is in fact very reminiscent of Judge Dredd, although even Dredd doesn't kill criminals unless he has to.
