Have you seen how we in Europe are getting stiffed on this I was going to get this if was around the £100-120 mark but £180...F-O!!!! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=130927 EA has confirmed the price for Rock Band, following the European date announcement this morning. Europe, unlike the US, will not get all of the instruments bundled together with the game. Instead, you will have to fork out for an Instrument Edition at GBP 129.99 / EUR 169 - comprised of the drum kit, guitar and microphone - then buy the game separately for GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99. Anyone after the whole lot will be looking at a total of GBP 180 / EUR 240, then. That's rather more than in the US, where you can buy the game and all the instruments for USD 169 - equivalent to around GBP 85 / EUR 107. Wireless guitars will be sold separately for GBP 59.99 / EUR 79.99, while the drum kit will be GBP 69.99 / EUR 89.99. Hopefully retailers will be offering their own bundles. Rock Band will be out in Europe exclusively for Xbox 360 on 23rd May. PS3, PS2 and Wii versions will follow later this summer.
It is quite lackluster, I was really looking forward to this after getting mercilessly addicted to GH but then..well the price announcement occurred.. Still, if it makes any difference, Play.com have the instruments bundle at £99.
240 EUR, oh my god! I'd like to hear the Euro vs. USD arguments now! Who cares how strong your currency is when game publishers will screw you anyway?
For the price you guys are paying, you could a buy another 360. Man you guys get the short end of the stick.
That truly and utterly sucks and I'll not be buying it until it turns up second-hand at a bargain car boot sale near me...
even if it costs ~$350...it's worth it  as far as games are concerned - one of the best experiences you can get. playing drums on expert...priceless ^_~ I've spent nearly $200 on additional downloadable content(songs), and I might add - $ well spent! anxiously anticipating european launch, hmx promised to bring 8 exclusive european tracks to rockband on a launch day(songs you're getting on the disc and which we'll have to pay for, here in states). I'm telling you it's better to buy rockband than couple of other games, I'm playing it for 6 months now and dlc keeps it fresh(last week we got first full album by judas priest "screaming for vengeance"). hopefully europeans won't have to pay 2 quid per song, that would be bit much.
I totally agree. I was all set to buy this, waiting forever, and then not only do we get a release date a good 6 months after the US, but the price totally sucks! And to add insult to injury, the game isn't included in the bundle! 'Official' prices in the UK (no such thing as RRP now) are: Software £49.99 (cheapest £39.99) Band in a Box bundle (no software) £129.99 (cheapest £99.99) Drum kit £69.99 (cheapest £65) Guitar £59.99 (when it comes out) USB Hub £19.99 Compare this to Guitar Hero III: Software £49.99 (cheapest £24.99) Software + Wireless Guitar £74.99 (cheapest £64.99) Wireless guitar £49.99 (cheapest £44.99) (GH2 was actually £69.99 with the wired guitar, and GH:Aerosmith will be £49.99) If we take the full retail prices, the software is the same, while the Rock Band guitar is £10 more. It is understandable as it is meant to be of better construction and has more buttons etc., but then again it isn't wireless. Technically, they should be able to do a bundle for similar, though - so let's imagine software + guitar should be £74.99. Drums are £69.99, which takes us to £144.98. This leaves us £35 off the total. The official USB hub is a rip-off - you can get a USB hub for under a tenner, but even at £20 that still leaves us £15 for a mic - which is, I guess, reasonable considering what Singstar costs on the PS2 (which consists of 2 budget mics the likes of which are £6 each in Argos and what I assume is a USB sound card). You can actually use your headset, anyway. So yes, I think the cost of manufacture must have been vastly lower than the price they are actually selling for - that or they got ripped off on the manufacturing deal! Now let's compare to the USA, which is where things start to get interesting. We are, of course, comparing the 360 version, as that is the only version released in the UK. Remember that all above UK prices include VAT at 17.5%. Software $59.99 (cheapest $59.82) Special Edition Bundle (INCLUDES game) $169.99 (cheapest $149.56) Drum Kit $79.99 (cheapest $49.37) Guitar $59.99 (cheapest $59.92) USB Hub $24.99 Microphone $34.99 So, the official price for the full kit is $169.99, it would appear. Tax will be around $15, so let's say $185. Today's exchange rate is £1 = $1.98051. Soooo...... In the UK, the whole kit should cost you £180 including tax, but you can get it for £140 (plus delivery). In the US, the whole kit should cost you $185 including tax, which is approximately £95. However, you can get it from Wal-Mart's website for $149.56, and if you opt to have it shipped to your nearest store, it is FREE SHIPPING! Tax would be just over $10 - I put in a NJ ZIP code and it was $10.47, bringing the grand total to $160.03, or approx. £81. Nice, isn't it? Whilst we can get a whopping £40 off the 'official' price for the whole kit, it is still £45 dearer than the US price. In fact, the full price in the US is ALMOST HALF the full price in the UK. I assume that the pricing is a bit more fairly matched on the downloadable songs, but again they add up to a fair old bit! MTV / Harmonix are making a killing, especially in the UK! I'd say add me and we can play when that happens, but I doubt XBL will be around by then!!! ;-)
i've just seen the european prices. ARE THEY TOTALLY INSANE??? i'm never gonna buy that game. Maybe a US version, but never a pal one !
Well i posted elsewhere that I got my set the other day from HMV Band in a Box instrument set Band in a Box game 2100 M-S points £150 So overall I didn`t think to and as the 2100 points normally retail at £20 So call it £130 which is what I was originally looking to pay
You have to remember a few things, though: A lot of American beer is horrible. Light beer, WTF?!?! I didn't find the beer prices so cheap, especially for the decent imported stuff! (and I went to some HUGE liquor warehouse place, too!) Americans will still bitch about rising fuel prices, without taking into account that a) we're running out of oil b) it's largely their fault cuz their fat junk food arses need 5 litre cars to be able to cope with dragging their obese families around (or their muscle car that drinks it) c) fuel costs approx. 3 times as much here as it does there! OK, I generalize too much - no offence meant to 'normal' Americans who don't run monster trucks or muscle cars! On the whole pricing issue, here's an unofficial reply from a Harmonix employee: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42720 VA: How?!?!?! HMV online sell it for £160, and that doesn't come with points!!
- 3 Stages of sucess - Stage 1 - Buy a Ps3 & Import RB Ps3 Stage 2 - ??? Stage 3 - Profit (and give EA the finger) Cheap Beer is not a plus. Atleast you can visit canada which has better beer.
