Some dudes posted a joke kickstarter asking for money for a potato salad They got $40,000 Yep, $40k You think I'm joking? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324283889/potato-salad?ref=discovery Seen plenty of good projects that didn't get shit, but this gets $40k If you gave money to this, all I can say is: seriously, whats wrong with you? are you that desperate to jump off the bridge too?
Why? It's dumb, but its also funny. People are allowed to give there money to who ever they feel like. This guy was able to lure them with humor.
Was it $40k when you posted? Cos now it's $52k lol. I guess the pledge amounts are so small people don't see the harm, hence so many backers.
Just wondering, why did you report it? Is it breaking some sort of term of service? He has to deliver the perks, so we'll see what happens there... Don't get mad at this guy when the idiots are the ones who keep donating money to him. This is no different from when Zach Braff was asking for money to make a new movie (that he could have funded himself). People were upset about that too, but guess what, it got funded and he delivered the movie and I know one of the backers who is ECSTATIC that she felt like she played a part in making a movie and got to cash in her perk of being an on-screen extra in the movie. To each their own. I dunno, maybe these people are going to be just as happy when they see him saying their name as he makes his potato salad. "A fool and his money are soon parted." There will be fools no matter what you do. Don't waste your time getting worked up over this.
There's a "This is not a project" tab in reporting. I just clicked on that and when asked why I stated "it's obvious"
Wow. So you have people out there trying to accomplish their goals and life dreams but this guy gets the money to make food...
The real fools are the ones who let something like this upset them, then the actual backers come next.
Yes, it is a project (well, sorta of), and he is pretending to give out t-shirts, books and more. Just don't waste time trying to take down a prank mocking other useless projects that are available on Kickstarter.
This project is stupid, but I think that is missing the whole point of this project, it's meant to be pointless and ridiculous kind of mocking some of the legitimate bad Kickstarters where the money is wasted without the warning of it being wasteful. Admittedly though, it doesn't help that this Kickstarter did go viral the past few days, trending on Facebook and what not, so that's probably where most of that money came from.
Kickstarter at least used to have pretty strict restrictions for projects; you couldn't just have a project that was just "self-improvement" i.e. "give me money", so it seems stupid that this is allowed. But then again, giving money to this project is slightly less stupid than giving it to the Star Citizen Kickstarter...
Agreed. None of our business what someone wants to do with their money. Someone could think the same about something we spend our money on, no matter what it is.
But who's going to spend $70,000 on potato salad? I mean what does $70,000 of potato salad even look like? That kind of money could save a child's life. Why Kickstarter don't allow charity funds is beyond me, it's such a successful method of raising money so much good could come from it, but instead you have to see things like this.
You say that as if some of these same people pitching in for a potato salad would also be just as eager to contribute to a child just because it's on kickstarter. Sure, if we lived in a magical peaceful world, that would be the case, but you're grasping at straws. Children all over the world die in troves daily, & if kickstarter allowed that you'd see thousands of people asking to save their kid, so much so that how convoluted it would get would prompt donaters to not feel as heartfelt, & end up donating to something silly/funny, such as a potato salad. Donating to help children already exists on the Internet, & I don't ever remember a giant explosion of your average person gathering to donate in any noticeably "viral" event. Yet instead, potato salad demands attention, because it is weird/funny/angering to see. Nobody likes thinking of starving children, so it gets a pass.
