I am tempted to give them 1$ for giving me a good laugh. But seriously, if this actually works, they will have to give like 1000 people a bite of the salad, Probably shipped in a bubble wrap? And also say the name of about 2000 people outloud while making the salad. Not to mention they will have to add about 500 custom ingredients chosen by backers to the recipe. This will be horribly tedious!!!
And some of the ingredient requests will undoubtly be utterly retarded, gross, or impossible to find.
i believe this is pretty much what some of us joke about but never actually do because fuck that. then lo and behold, some douche decided to do it with great (luck.. nothing else) success. making money has never been easier, really. sad thing is he will probably be called a genius or some shit for this.. it's not genius, nor funny, nor new, nor "omg so weird lololzol!" does "everything" silly have to go viral nowadays? more like 99.9%, can't blame them no longer though. way of the world indeed.
^^ and over half the global population would take the dough and split, he wouldn't be the first, nor last! ... (on the joke) the point is old, and got made several times already, ST**M is a classic example.... although it was software, the EULA/TOC CLEARLY did state 'this is a waste of time and money, PLEASE DON'T DONATE!' guess what direction that took? :concern: ... if one reason is required to avoid masses/peoples, the subject type is one fair reason. (folks don't care for worthy causes, just car crashes, hard drugs, deafening tuns and sex on tap, way of the world as we know it, cuts it for those wanting different...)
He said that the people will be INVITED to have a bite on the potato salad party... He's looking out to donate or help someone with this money, but that is another story (he will contact Kickstarter about this).
In other potato salad news I just found out that KFC no longer sells potato salad in my area. I am devastated.
I'm not really making a suggestion, more highlighting the irony and complete and utter lack of care people seem to have in this day and age, which you said pretty well your self. People would rather donate money to joke funds and meaningless crap instead of actually doing something noble, and things like this only advocate and encourage that kind of attitude further. I really don't get the joke at all, nor why people feel compelled to be a part of it. Perhaps if the potato salad was going to feed the homeless or people in need then there would be some value to it, but as it is I just don't get it. If anything I'm glad to see him losing $25,000 over night, at least that made me happy.
I'm not angry at the guys making this, but to all the idiots who donated to it "just for fun" Why don't help people "just for fun"? Oh right no social clout! you can't tell your "friends" on facebook that you donated to whatever the fuck is trending this week! that is so much more important that doing something with an actual impact in our world! As for kickstarter they don't care as long as they get their cut.
There are things even worse - like idiots spending millions on nothing but a bottle of whisky/vodka/wine/whatever, modern "art" like glued shit (sometimes literal shit) in a box, or buying gold-plated outdated mobile phones. If you're so rich and want to show off - why not spend some money on cancer research or fund supersonic passenger jet development or even private Mars exploration instead of saying "Look! I'm another idiot with money who waste a lot on garbage and think it's cool!"
Why are we all wasting our money on rare vintage gaming stuff? We should all be sending it to the poor or cancer research. Thinking about it, why are we even wasting out time online, what a bunch of egoistic bastards are we? We should be doing charity work for those in need during our free time.
Max War speaks some wisdom here. It's easy to point the finger at people for spending money on "stupid shit," but what are you yourself doing? Unless your actively helping those in need on a constant basis, I don't see it fit to criticize others for their spending on less than charitable events. Even looking at some of the big prototype providers on here, they are doing something charitable for us, usually. Is that better than helping those truly in need? I don't think they are so easy to compare. We all have our own desires & failings, acting like you have the higher ground compared to potato salad contributors is not commendable. Not even I do, as I usually spend every penny on myself.
Since this actually worked, i'mma bout to start a Kickstarter and have em' donate me some money so i can get a Playstation 3 TEST unit or Xbox 360 XNA kit, for real!
wisdom exists on both sides of the coin. public forum, open to view, and critique. (YES, i KNOW first hand, especially HERE! own fault i guess? speak mind, get flak, democracy is a farce) freedom of speech, check out that mad 'politics' thread..:concern: but on 'moral highground'. what did you do to stop ??? bad thing? cancer is an old dog, can be cured, if you get right treatment/endure isotope exposures. (could get into the pharma trade, they've kept us all ill for continual profits, status-quo) to make ANY positive difference globally, takes getting on 'radars' dodging assassins 'calling cards' and lambasted by the population at large... it may come as a shock, but folks DO good on a daily basis, like putting smiles on faces to helping out in area. (if one persons day is bettered, that's +1 for us, -1 the powers that be) for the kind of difference to be groundbreaking/CHANGING would require resources beyond 'average' means, connections that would make savile blush, and a COMPLETE disregard for ones own safety vs everybody wellbeing/be a social pariah. ... judgement comes from both sides, i'm damned anyway, so dgaff, know my place, i know what i do to better those around me irl. (and they do me) i don't claim to go hungry because of help, are limitations, call it what you will! (never claimed to be mother teresa) ... so, what do you do to make a difference? :witless: (egotistic? realistic? other?) ... you can be a goat too, that's a reference to that steam BS, i knew i'd remember it...:smile-new: (and 'vintage' gear doesn't rank on stupid lists, but it's fine for highlight cause, here's me thinking taxes was, but i'm no politician, just human)
I have been inspired. I'm going to start a kickstarter for my Sex tape with Ali Spagnola that's never happening (if you follow me on twitter it's a running a joke)
You might just be the man that get's Sora Aoi back on the camera. ANNNNNND, it will be kickstarted and considered a savior to many. I wouldn't be surprised if you did get donations though lol.
