Holy crap, the PS3 controller is not only ugly, but too damn small. My hands would crush that controller, and my hands aren’t really that big! I didn't think Sony could foul up an already shitty design, but I was dead wrong.
Have you ever actually used a controller with an angled dpad? A few controllers have tried it before and while you might think it would make sense if your hands are have to be at a complimentary angle to hold the controller, it actually really doesn't work at all. Even if your hands are at an angle, it seems that your brain automatically compensates for that, so and angled just feels like it's at an angle anyway and you find yourself having to think about which way to roll your thumb to get a straight direction. In my opinion the angled dpad is the worst aspect of this controller and a sure sign that Sony has *NOT* in fact play tested the thing. As for everyone saying that they're gonna have to buy third party controllers for their PS3s, I wonder if you guys have noticed how almost no third party controllers every stray significantly from the 1st party design? I was surprised to discover this when I went looking for an Xbox controller to convert to USB a couple months ago. None of the controllers I found aside from the SF2 Anniversary pad (which is what I eneded up buying and I must say it was very disappointing) were really any different from Microsoft's pad. Oh, they might have had slightly differently shaped analog sticks or triggers or buttons a little bit closer together or further apart, but nobody seems to do anything radically different. And the same seems to be true of third party Gamecube and for the most part PS2 pads, too. That strikes me as weird. It seems like the reason for buying a third party controller would be that you want something different from the 1st party option. I guess not, though. ...word is bondage...
I hope they will change the controller design if it turns out to be too incomfortable. Microsoft did it with their "Shaq-hands" controller, so I hope Sony will, too.
Pffff that joypad looks like shite.. it's as if they didnt even bother to think about where to put the sony logo.. looks as if they put it there cuz it's the only place it'd fit
Amen to that, angled d-pads are the bane of all game controllers. I have a generic Dreamcast controller and a generic Xbox controller that both have angled d-pads. I have died in games so many times just because you think you are hitting up and you actually hit diagonal. The Dreamcast controller got converted into part of a Dreamcast to Jamma adapter I built. The Xbox one will sit and collect dust forever...
